My SO watched that but I couldn't. Too brutal for me.
He thought it was a bit effed up and confusing but he watched it to the end anyway.
The island community and what is happening very much reminded me of Storm of the Century. Different, but similiar.
But I want to talk about a moment. Quite long. Almost, if not all of the song played. I absolutely just loved the montage using Neil Diamond's, Holly Holy.
The decision to use that song, and the images -- something about that was very powerful. I've gone back and watched that a couple times now. Just to see if it still resonated with me. And it does.
We see the people changing. We see smiles and hope and love and laughter. There are scenes of ominous dropped in here and there too just to keep us unsettled so we don't get too complacent, sappy and joyful. And then we cut to that perfect scene of the crucifix held high in the air, we are up there with it, watching it from behind as it bobs left to right to that perfect music, and we see the congregation to either side. Growing in numbers. Hopeful.
And then we cut to community and then back to the crucifix. Back and forth .
And this Muslim storyline is going to be very important to the salvation and redemption of this little island place -- if there is going to be any salvation and redempton. I find that very refreshing because we rarely see the heroes as anything other than Christians (when religion is a part of the plot) in most of our entertainments.
If you see an interview or anything that talks about the use of this song, please let me know. I want to hear how they chose it. And I want to hear about the images and the way they filmed that montage.

netflix. Nordic entry.
i’m 4 minutes in and nervous as a cat.
Ohhhhh but... the end of episode 5 was 😭
I can only imagine what this show would be like to watch as either a Catholic, lapsed Catholic or a Muslim... I bet it just added numerous layers to the story.
