Yeah, Jenna Coleman in a crime series, yeah - I'm there.

I can't believe someone decided to call her character Ember and then send her directly to an arson situation.

I also find it hard to acknowledge that her character is old enough to be the mother of a teenager. And yet she is...

  • I saw a UK edition of one of Steve's books on the shelf behind Ember when she's going through the box of mementos at the end of episode 1.

I hope this next episode of Before is season finale. (I keep calling it Beyond).

While it’s interesting, it’s getting really tedious to watch.  And very hard to suspend disbelief on Billy Crystal’s behavior and the acceptance/ treatment of it.

He admits killing his wife and no authorities are called?   I just can’t.

The kid has done a good job, but man! Either fucking die already or let’s move on from the nonverbal, blue-lipped, disgruntled, epileptic  shit.  Every episode, 2 or 3 times, we are forced to watch this kid roll his eyes back in his head, go limp, and someone catches him in the nick of time and screams for help.

They are stretching and milking it for all it’s worth. And it’s weakened what started out promising. This would have been better served as a plot-tightened movie.

I’m hanging in to the end, I gotta see how many more times Billy can cut someone open for a worm that no one else sees and everyone just sort of scolds him. Ho hum.  Take the kid home. And leave him.

Hot tip on the ward, stay away from Billy.

  • Watched Sambre a true crime dramatization about the case of the serial rapist that wrecked havoc between 1988 and 2018 in the river Sambre area on both sides of the border (France/Belgium). A to tal of 58 victims in 30 years (known at least). He was convicted to 20 years. (I dont think France has life sentences for crimes considered less than murder or terrorism in theor law). If it was up to me proven cases of serial rapists should be locked up for life. This case the perpetrator confessed and there was technical evidence too. But the police in the 80,s and 90,s never took it seriously because it was a small town and everybody knew everybody and none of us could do a thing like that and more of that bullshit. found it national TV. A 6 part miniseries that was good if you like a good dramarized true crime story.

I tried to find this. Youtube has docs on the guy but all in French and no ability to close caption in English. Dang.

Can you read a language but not actually speak it?  Or vice versa?

I'm no great linguist but i speak swedish and english fluently. I speak german (and read) but it would be a serious brag to call it fluent but i understand it well when spoken and can read a book in it but it takes more effort than english. My french is very limited, just a few phrases remembered from school. And thats about it. I wish i could more of spanish and italian but no. As for the Tv-series it aired on national television (bought in i presume from france) and therefore subbed when i watched it.

  • ....so you're Panlingual then?..... :D :D :D

  • If you're not watching Shrinking, you're missing out on one of the best TV shows out there. Harrison Ford...oh, my god. His speech in the S2 finale is heart-wrenching.

Beyond Paradise - a charming Christmas special
Okay. I missed something.  The little boy that was placed with them at the end of last season— what happened to him? I know he was a foster, but my poor memory is tangling — i thought he was there to adopt?

And yes. Such a sweet show. One of my favorites.
    GNTLGNTFlakeNoir
  • He could be temporary or more permanent. A foster.
    GNTLGNTFlakeNoir
  • The Doctor Who special was charming, too.
    GNTLGNTFlakeNoir
  • As was the Call the Midwife Christmas special

  • Death in Paradise Christmas special fun. This new DI is going to have to grow on me.

If anyone watches Carry-On, with Jason Bateman, let me know what you think.

I like that he's less of a goofball than previous DIs. He has a few quirks, true, but he's less slapstick.

True. He was quieter. Hopefully more of his personality comes out as he settles in. He’ll have his own quirks I’m sure.
