I am sitting outside watching 4 guys take out a huge tree. It’s amazing how fast it’s coming down. But then they stop and discuss angles of cuts and how it will fall.  Really interesting.

I have faith in the main guy and his second in command.  Main guy all business,  bad cop.  Second in command, chatty, friendly. Good cop. He deals with the civvies.

I have a huge cooler filled with a variety of gatorades and water — love me boys.

The two grunts are nice, but don’t appear they could fight their way out of a paper bag.

If zombies attack, i’m leaping on the back of second in command and riding into a new life.

    A whole new world…..🎼

  • ....HAHAHA!!!....good stuff Deej  :D....yep, the angles and cuts are a science in and of themselves.....experience with same keeps the tree from falling on the Wicked Witch of the East....

It’s amazing really. They have a very narrow space to bring down a huge limb because of other trees , fence, neighbors houses and they just slide it right in there.

  • Oopsy daisy — took out a section of fence. But they got lucky, in two weeks , that whole long section of fence between me and neighbor is being replaced.

  • Not much on the agenda here today. Scott's vacation is over, he goes back to work tonight. Hoping to just rest, read, maybe watch a little TV.

Next week taxi service resumes, Ali has band camp starting up. We're down to 3 weeks and 3 days until school starts again.

And this part of the team is done. They took out an extra tall piney monstrosity for me, not in the original quote— at least 12 feet high, big and fat and bushy, for 100 bucks.  One of those scratchy itchy things. They were discussing how to bring down the very tallest part of the tree avoiding this horrible beast.  I said, “ if you ‘accidentally’ hit this thing (pointing at beast) we’ll be okay.”  He jumped on my offer quickly because it benefitted them and I got that thing outta here.

Now the stump grinder comes in the next week. It looks great!!!!

That's a pretty good deal - two for the price of one?

Actually, the price was for the big one. Then he threw in a second tree for free to get rid of a bad limb and clean it up and then this third one was just 100 because it helped  them to have it outta the way. It was great. I will have them back in october for more trees.

Cleaning up tree mess. They do a pretty good job, but there was still a bit to rake.

I gave away my kayak today.  I will miss her but i am unable to do kayaking now.  But, she went to my nephew who is young and strong and goes to the lake every weekend.

He got roof rack , life vest, whistle, wheels — it’s not fancy but it’s free and gets him out on the water.

“Good evening Mr. and Mrs. America, from border to border and coast to coast and all the ships at sea….”

sigh. We were Old Dana and the Lake for quite a long time.

  • Thank you! It was quite a journey -- they flew from Okinawa to Tokyo to Chicago (with two cats, mind you), where they were met by our daughter's parents-in-law, who drove them to Texas in a Volvo with 200,000 miles on it, plus a U-haul trailer! Took them two days to get here from Chicago! My wife and I have been setting up their rental house for the past couple of months, moving all their stored things out of our attic and closets, plus handling all of our daughter's ordered stuff. It's been an adventure.

Now to get everyone un-jetlagged (including the cats)!
How are kit and kin adjusting?
