  • I watched the six-episode Polish crime series Detective Forst on Netflix. I don't think I can recommend it. It was pretty incomprehensible.

  • I agree. Again, i love to watch the scenery, settings, attitudes, customs — but this story was so disjointed.  Nothing made any sense.

  • If anyone is watching True Detective Night Country on HBO/Max — I highly recommend the podcast. So much background information that makes the series richer. Each only 30 minutes ish but worth it.

Night Country season 4 episode 3 spoiler

I am seriously baffled why anyone who is fighting the mine — and the very obvious tainted water supply — would give birth or allow anyone to give birth in that water.
Yes, this is look back at a past event, but Annie Kowtok is the doula, being arrested, already engaged in mine protests over the poisoning of the land, water and indigenous peoples.

  • Finished Slow Horses. Season 3 ended on some serious cliffhangers that make it difficult not to jump into the next one.

Finished what is now apparent, Season 1, of Blue Eyed Samurai. Went into it thinking it was a limited series so the ending underwhelmed a little went it setup a second season. Still an enjoyable watch.

    Finished 'This is us" (Netflix)
I am devastated.   Maybe it's my state of mind these days.  Not into watching shows like this, but this one did me in.    O my  give it a go - but bring tissues.

Grew to love all of them.

  • Can't wait for the S5 finale of Fargo -- Juno Temple is fantastic in it.

I started season 1 of Slow Horses -- so far, so good.
Just watched episode 1. Holy shit! That was intense. Amazed at Juno Temple. Her ability to play a character with the 'Fargo' accent is flawless. I am truly gobsmacked.

  • Holy hell. Is anyone watching Capote vs The Swans?

Apparently the Happy Rockefeller situation was true.

Let this be a lesson gentlemen. As the wise saying goes, don’t put your dick in crazy.

Been watching Boy Swallows Universe.....really good but quite depressing....Felix Cameron who plays the lead character is absolutely fantastic, definitely a new star in the making.

Watching this now. Totally agree. It's raw, heartbreaking and warming. I feel like there'll be no winners though, I'm on edge the whole time. Thank goodness for the humour, it puts a salve on the heart.
This really feels like NZ in the 80's to a large degree.

Lots of sin eaters these days. Bloated with it.

I haven't seen S4 yet either I'm pretty certain.  I'm sure the Ewan season was the last I've seen.

    S 5 sounds.... er, yeah.

I've just finished this (Boy Swalluws Universe) tonight and...

It did not go where I thought it would go. The first few episodes were raw and harsh and I-don't-give-a-fuck-how-painful-this-is-gonna-be. Then what Lyall said would happen, happened.

But it didn't feel quite right. Don't get me wrong, I love a happy ending where the good guys live and prosper. But, it felt like it went from true story, to impossible fantasy.

    I don't know, I think I'm still processing. 🤔

I'm enjoying Black Spot on Netflix. It's a French/Belgian series set in an isolated French town deep in the forest. Is it a supernatural series? After a season, the jury is still out on that. The crows are definitely suspect. The main character is a sheriff who, twenty years ago, was kidnapped and chained up in the woods, perhaps as a sacrifice. She chopped off a couple of fingers to escape, so, yeah, she's a bad-ass. It's a murder-of-the-week with an ongoing storyline, too. The murder rate is six times higher there than the rest of the country, France's Cabot Cove. It's a little slow-paced at times, but I like it.

The title derives from the fact that the cell phone coverage can be non-existent at times, which isn't often a major factor in the plot, but sometimes.

The newly arrived prosecutor reminds me a lot of Monk.

Capote vs the Swans is really bitchy entertainment. I’m enjoying it.

I asked this years ago on the skmb and will wonder again.

I would love to know what Stephen King thought of these juggernauts of writing, namely, Truman Capote, Norman Mailer, William F Buckley, Gore Vidal who were constantly embroiled in catty entanglements— mostly with each other. Their old interviews, singly or head-to-head are dripping with poshly controlled venom.

The subject matter is of no consequence. Topics about other writers, society, religion, politics, sex — nothing was spared their distaste.

I would have been uncomfortably mesmerized sitting in the audience while they did battle.

For those following the new season of True Detective, just a reminder that the new episode drops tonight because of superbowl Sunday.

Apparently Nic Pizzaandalatte, creator of True Detective and not involved in season 4, is having some kind of small, white-dick reaction to the story.

I think it’s different in a way that was needed. Season 2 and 3 were clearly the weak links.  So, stfu nicky wah wah.

And for the record, Qavvik is hot! Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm.

And I really want to call someone “ laundromat grandma.”
