I'm just a few pages from finishing The Ten Thousand Doors of January. I really enjoyed it.  I'm ready for it to be over though.  That's not a bad comment on the book - just me getting distracted.  I need a new shiny object.

What did you think of the ending of Head Full of Ghosts @Hedda Gabler? Demonic intervention? Insanity?  I still can't really make sense of that ending.

I'm not sure what's next for me. I'm going to see what's free on Kindle and what's good and available on Thriftbooks. Post your latest most favorite book rec!
My number one thought would just be insanity.  The whole lot of them.

I'm mulling around in my head why margorie set up meredith.  Why did she do that?  She loved her sister, but must have deeply hated her too.

I loved this rambling but not insignificant thought:

"I wanted to leave that room, that house, and I had a brief runaway fantasty where I ran away to California, which I'd never been to, to where all the Bigfoots were, and I'd disappear into the woods and live alone, become a rumor, an occasional blurred sighting."

I don't know what struck me so about it.  I'm sort of feeling that people in my life are rumors and occasional blurred sightings in this strange landscape we all find ourselves in.  Yes. Maybe that's it. Or maybe I'm the blurred sighting.  Nobody really seeing me.

    I see you.

  • Now I'm going to try and finish a book I started months ago, Where the Crawdads Sing.

Let me know what you think of it - Doc Creed and I discussed this one a couple of years ago

Don't laugh but I just got a large type book out of the library called "Successful Aging" by Daniel J. Levitin

I just started it and it's pretty good so far

I would never laugh at that.  Sometimes they are just more comfortable to read.  Some book's tiny print makes a read tedious, so I get it.

I'll let you know when I finish crawdads.

I actually meant the title of the book - "Successful Aging" - now that I am getting older I have been thinking of my poor Dad who had Alzheimer's; I wonder if there's anything we can do to help ward that off.

If I find anything interesting in there I'll let you know

And I would never laugh at that either. We are aging. And we need to do it successfully.  Any tips to do that are great and worth all of our time.

Definitely pass on any real insights about growing old. I know I'd appreciate them.

And the body apparently. I've been having some interesting conversations with my son's optician who is also a child psychologist and he's been doing a lot of study with young children with ADHD and older adults with dementia and Alzheimer's and he's said there are certain physical therapies that are benefitting both groups of people.

....I would concur....my Dad was always active....the yard and orchard were his milieu and he spent countless hours working and puttering, plus come winter time-he always had a list of projects to keep him moving.....sharp as a tack till he passed.....

  • Spidey, a while back PIH suggested another book for me to read after crawdads.  I can’t remember the title, but it seemed like librarian was in the title.

    Do you remember it?

Be sure and give us some mini reviews of Bev's stories.  He has so many stories out there I'd like to get my hands on.

  • I've discovered Alma Katsu. Read The Hunger by her recently And it was good. A wagon train goes west in 1846 but they are not alone..... Real good i thought. Now i'm gonna start The Deep by her. Apparently it takes place on the Titanic. I guess you can call these books Historic Horror.

Historic horror -- sounds very intriguing.

  • I am still reading The Evening and the Morning. I am enjoying it, I just haven't been reading much. I try and the next thing you know I am nodding off.

I hear ya there.  Why is that?  What I'm reading isn't boring.  I'm enjoying it. But I start reading and my eyes get so heavy and I'm just snoozing away.
