  • Didi, on Peacock. A coming-of-age story about a Taiwanese boy in California in 2008. Getting rave reviews and we enjoyed it.

  • Caddo Lake on Max -- out today. I reviewed it here.

  • We watched Wolfs on Apple TV -- George Clooney and Brad Pitt as lone-wolf fixers, both called in to fix the same bad situation and being forced to work together. At first it was a little campy in that Clooney and Pitt had more chemistry with each other than the situation called for, but eventually it settled down and became a full-on thriller. Austin Abrams was really quite good as the kid who ends up in the middle of it all. Solid B.

  • I watched Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf on youtube in Spanish. Free.

The movie is English speaking and i read subtitles in Spanish. It was really interesting how they changed the way a turn of phrase was said in spanish. And this work is full of colorful
    phrases.

Spanish, while beautiful, seems sparse and not as detailed as English. I don’t understand how a any piece of work has the same nuanced meaning in Spanish.

How is my creative English sarcasm going to translate so intricately to Spanish?

    It’s not.

  • I watched women of the hour on Netflix. It is the true story about the serial killer that was on The Dating Game in the seventies.
     that was nuts.

  • Review John Wick 4 CATS Central....overlong, but still a decent wrap up to the series....at least I hope it's a wrap, no loose ends left after this.....great line from the flick, "John Wick is just a a ghost looking for a graveyard"....decent effort put forth by "IT Boy" Bill Skarsgård as a baddy....

  • As strange as it seems, I'd never seen E.T. I knew most of the story and have seen clips, but when it was released, it was in a theater that was in part of town that was hard to get to if you didn't have a car (I was an undergrad at the time).

So we watched it last night, inspired by seeing the John Williams documentary last weekend. Good film. Henry Thomas was so good, and Drew Barrymore was so young! It holds up pretty well.

  • Watched,  In A Violent Nature .

A camper finds and keeps an old locket at the remains of a fire tower deep in the woods, a corpse buried there is resurrected and begins to hunt for the locket,  killing all who get in his way.

Retro slasher, filmed almost entirely from the killers perspective, at times it feels like you are watching a video game because of the over the shoulder camera perspective. It's quite gory but as slashers go it's quite enjoyable 🤔

  • Watched Apocalypsis Z: The Beginning of the end. A spanish apocalyptic movie a disease spreads and make people zombie like. Not exactly original but well done and it was a relief to see a different take on it than the american. Ends like if there are plans for a sequel which makes me think it might be based on a book trilogy or something like that.

.....hmmm, note to self, since the woods in this film look very much like those around you Scott-keep a close eye out for goofier than usual dwellers with sharp instruments....

  • We watched My Old Ass on Prime last night. Despite the somewhat off-putting title, it is a cute, touching coming-of-age story about an 18-year-old getting ready to go off to college who is visited by her 39-year-old self during a mushroom trip. The older version (I'm not middle-aged, I am a very young adult, she says emphatically) is played by Aubrey Plaza, who is always terrific. Most of the cast is Canadian, and it's filmed in rural Ontario.

  • Wolfs — Pitt/ Clooney

    pretty cute. I enjoyed it.

Kings of Comedy - Criterion. Deniro was good.

  • Watched Carnifex.

After a series of raging forest fires, a documentary film maker accompanies two conservationists into the Australian outback to try to assess the impact on the local wildlife. While examining some trail cams thy realise a new species has moved into the area, and before long they find themselves on the beast's menu.....

This wasn't too bad, an interesting idea for sure. A supposed extinct species reappearing and competing for territory with man. The CGI beast was ok, this was low budget but I thought they did it well enough. If you like nature run amok movies then you may enjoy this one.

    pretty cute. I enjoyed it.

We liked Wolfs, too. I was a little leery of it at first -- they were almost too familiar with each other -- but it settled down, and I'd be game for a sequel.
