  • Summer of Soul won the Oscar for Best Documentary.  It's good.  You can watch it on Hulu.

  • Wow.  He literally just controlled everyone’s collective conscience.

Shows how the cult of personality takes over.

He was a dominant force at the BBC for decades. I find it impossible to believe the at least some of the head honchos there didn't know what was going on. And early on the police were guilty of downplaying accusations and basically covering for him.

Oh for sure people had to know. They had to. I think they turned a blind eye to stay around celebrity and he was raising a ton of money. But like he said himself, he was tricky.

What a cost those children had to pay. I wish he would have lived long enough to finally know he was caught.  To experience the pure hatred from the public for him. It took too long to get him.  But as the kids said, i was nothing, who would believe me over a much beloved figure?

  • Johnny Hallyday: beyond Rock

I have never heard of this man in my life. But he was a huge star in France. He filled stadiums!

A cross between a Danny Bonaduce lookalike and the lead singer of WhiteSnake, interesting personality.

  • We watched the first episode of Our Great National Parks on Netflix, narrated by Barack Obama. At first I thought it was going to be about American parks but it actually covers parks around the world, which is really cool.

All You Need is Love — IDMb

about Paul and John.  Interesting but while most commenters were equally balanced between the guys in positive and negative comments, one guy was pro John all the way. There was just no way he was going to give any props to
    paul.

And while I think both guys had good songs and bad songs post Beatles — paul has sort of come out the heavy in the breakup. Untrue. Very untrue.  And the commenters admit this error. I wish very much that john and george were around so we could get their adult thoughts because they were especially childish about it at the time and for years afterwards— john being the worst.  Paul was the business guy that saved their asses and he was the one who did most of the adulting. Not that he didn’t have his baby moments, but they were mostly in response  to
    John’s shit.

  • Today I watched: The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.

It was quite good, it refreshed a lot of what I had forgotten and some of it was completely new to me.
I guess we'll never really know what happened. She was an enigma and everybody's darling, but so lonely too I think.

I watched that as well Flakes  it was decent, likewise I had heard most of the theories discussed in it before, I think she became quite difficult to work with as she got more successful, there's an interview with Laurence Olivier where he says that she was very difficult to work with,  constantly late, multiple takes, he felt he couldn't get the performance out of her, it was there but it was just to difficult trying to coax it out from her.

Was this toward the end of her life when she was using prescription drugs more heavily?
