Okay, no takers so I looked back through this thread and chose Cloud Cuckooland that Grant mentioned and Killing Commendatore that Bev mentioned.

Also bought another David Sedaris. I thought I had read all of his but in going back through my reading journal to 1995, I’ve missed some.  He’ll terrify, disgust, make me tear up and make me lol.   I just never know what emotion his essay will get from me. And I like that. Piss me off, gross me out, tug my heart strings or make me laugh.  I’m game.

  • I couldn't think of anything fast. Most of my reading lately have been rereads, still working on refreshing my memory with the Outlander series, and Harry Potter and some older Dean Koontz. The only 2 "new" ones for me were that Picoult book and then one called The Last Thing He Told Me, which I thought was ok but not good enough to buy. Library read, but not buy. Oh and Marsha's books but you've read those!

No worries! I was just grabbing some books to add to a stash I will never get read before I die. 🤣

but, people will think as they go through my shit, “wow, she was an eclectic reader. What a wide range!”

and maybe then, I’ll be cool.

  • I do the same...saw this the other day and it made me giggle because this has happened to me. Mostly with books on the kindle bc I buy like a crazy person when something is on a daily deal or whatnot...but occasionally with hard copies too.

  • Am deep into Times Eye by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter. Really good story. Enjoying it a lot. Its a story of time distortion. Small slices of past and future places are ripped loose on a global scale and placed side by in a kind of world. There are made up characters but there also the very real characters of Genghis Khan, Alexander The Great and Rudyard Kipling that play big roles. Over all this are the Eyes watching. What are they? Where did they come from? And Why??Noone knows. Perhaps there are some answers in the end of the book. It is the kind of story that makes you read on because you cant bear not knowing what happens next.

    And
re bookshops being deadly...... i just went to shop my copy of Gwendys Final Task but somehow came out with two books on early roman history as well..... Why cant i control myself???????????????

  • Finished Times Eye. Great read. Continues with Sunstorm by the same aurhors. The second book in their Times Odyssey trilogy. The last Clarke wrote before he died. He managed to finish the trilogy and its nice to see he hasnt lost his touch with the decades passing by.

  • In the middle of Sunstorm by Clarke & Baxter and its a fine continuation of the trilogy they started in Times Eye (The Times Odyssey trilogy). We are at the time where some of the travellers we met in the last book came from, 2037, and a really big Sunflare (a sunstorm) fries all electricity and communication all over earth. All over earth people wonder "What the heck was that?" and specialists are set to work to figure out consequences. This was just the beginning. In 2042 a very much bigger Sunstorm will occur and make life on earth impossible. So mankind must, somehow, protect itself from its own sun. But how? And how effective will it be? and all this in just 5 years. Big decisions has to be made. Also fastpaced but not too fastpaced and you really want to know what will happen next.

I listened to A Kiss with Teeth by Max Gladstone on Levar Burton Reads last night. A sweet take on vampires. I absolutely love these short stories. It’s a little bit radio play but not — and Levar is so good. I love the conversation after he reads the story. Bits and pieces of his thoughts.

It would have been a huge honor Bev to have your story read.

You Almost did.   Next time. You can have people recommend stories to Levar. They have a contact for that. Do you have a published story you’d like recommended? I’ll do it.

127 pages to go of Finders Keepers.

I’m a fast reader and could easily knock that out. But, I have decided to perfect my stalling technique. Get that polished to a fine art. Take it on the road and sell it at craft fairs because self sabotage proves my fidelity to Stephen King.

Wth. I really don’t know why I do this. Good story. Good writing.  But the anxiety of what King is going to do just forces me to keep walking away.

  • I finished The Haunting of Hill House the other day, and now I'm reading The Silent Patient while I wait for Final Task to come in the mail. I don't usually read too many thrillers, but The Silent Patient is highly regarded. I have 100 pages left to go. Most reviews I've seen talk about how great the twist ending is, so I'm curious to see how it wraps up.

Hey. I’m just throwing this out to the universe.  I don’t have time to play coy or old lady flirty.

Anyone within the sound of my voice who wants to share an ARC of Stephen King’s upcoming Fairy Tale with me,  I wouldn’t say no.

Yeah, yeah — get in line with the other schmoes begging for the Gods to smile down upon them.

The world is filled with lots of NO!  But sometimes you get a yes.  A person just has to be brave enough to ask for what they want.  🥰

  • Finders Keepers — 41 pages to go — aaawrrrrghgghhhhh!

  • Done.

End Of Watch, here I come.
    KurbenGNTLGNTNotarocat
  • Read - The Resisters by Gish Jen. A dystopic tale where the Internet is used to monitor and control all. America is now AutoAmerica and there exists two classes of people - the Surplus and the Netted. Much of the country has been submerged so many people live in houseboat communities. Into this story comes a girl who has an amazing throwing arm which leads her parents to start an underground baseball league. From these humble beginnings starts a rallying cry that results in a major social upheaval.

Touching, scary - light of today's world, and powerful.

  • I am 50 pages in on End of Watch and guess what gets delivered?

Sorry Bill and Holly — another’s siren song calls for my love — Gwendy, you’re a fine girl.
