Long time no see - what's new?

    <3

    NEW...
My hubby and I FINALLY bought a house. (AKA...finally bought a money pit.) I seriously believed this was a long time dream...now I almost (mostly) wish we were still renting!
     There's more, but....one subject at a time

Congrats - now your hubby gets to play handy man - I remember him from Maine - tell him I said hello

There's a lot more work involved but it's worth it in the long run (I think) - yay! :)

  • We visited an an old church that was once the main church for the Erik-dynasty in swedish history. 3 of the kings of that line is buried here. This was before Stockholm existed.  and powercentral was here, in Varnhem. The pic is the Grave of Birger Jarl that ruled sweden from approximately 1248-1266 when he died. He was smart enough that he realized that he didn't have to be king, just to have the power. His son was elected king and he ruled in his name behind the scenes so to speak. He was the first king to declare peacelaws, Homepeace meant that the noble no longer had right to come to a farmer and take food without paying for it. Churchpeace which meant that the church was neutral no fights or harch words were allowed, the church was for all. Womenpeace that meant that it was no longer allowed to simply kidnap a woman, marry her and call her your wife, such marriages were invalid. A practice not uncommon in those days. also Courtpeace which meant that when people were at a court no weapons were allowed, the law was what decided, not who was best at swordplay. He founded Stockholm and all later Kings, including his sons, are buried there. Stockholm was neutral ground, no prestige between rivaling families could interfere and closer to the sea where much trade was made. He died in 1266 and is considered one of the more important rulers sweden ever had.

I think its supposed to be a portrait but this is possible upside down since i got there one minute before the church closed and hadn't really the time i should have wished for. Then it is 750 years ago and at the beginning it was part of the churchfloor so many generations walked on this but later it was raised and a small fence built around it.

He could be ruthless to, all rulers had to at some point, but he is said to have said at one point: Land should be built by law. Thats was his idea. His sons and grandsons continued in this vain and it started to look up for sweden when the plague came in 1350 and everything went to pieces.... Half the population died and the king (Magnus Eriksson, sonsonson to Birger Jarl) got the blame which was rather unfair. He had to surrender his throne in 1364 which led to 150 years of fighting with german and danish pretenders of who should rule sweden.

Well, to be precise, The guys standing is Birger and his wife Mechtild and sitting in between are their son Erik. They were all found in the grave. A Dna analysis were made some years ago to prove it reilly was Birgers grave. It also proved that the old stories were true. It is mechtild and Erik together with him. His son died young, just 25 years old a few years after him and he was said that he wanted to be buried with his wife.

  • A nesting problem at the balcony today....  For a few weeks whenever i went out on the balcony two doves sat there looking around. I chased them away wanting my balcony to myself without all the shit that goes with doves. Today i entered the balcony, looked down and saw a dove sitting in an empty flowerpot. I put out a foot and chased her away but she was reluctant to go and i soon discovered the reason. Under her were two eggs! These two had been scouting the right place to build their nest and for reasons i cant even begin to understand decided on my balcony. I mean i wish them well and everything, procreate as much as you like, fine, but not on my balcony!! Is it selfish of me not wanting my outdoor place turned into a breeding ground for doves? Couldn't they have chosen another place? And what do i do now? Throw the nest with the eggs away? Or let them win the battle of the balcony rights?? Somehow i dont wanna do either but have difficulty in finding a middleground here. Sigh! I hate these kind of decisions.

  • Personally. I would leave the  nest be. How often do you go out there? And for how long?  I would continue to sit out there as you  like and leave it to them the rest of the time. Once the nest is empty, get rid of it and watch closely and interrupt any rebuilding. They’ll figure it out quickly and move on.

  • I'll looked it up on the internet. They nest 2-3 weeks. I'll guess i can live with that. And the eggs looked pretty cute.

Oh my gosh.. agree, totally agree.
This is exciting Kurben, you could document it all in photos, oh boy I would love this!

You're going to be a 'Dove Daddy'!
And yes, there will be shit, and broken sleep, and heartbreak when they leave the nest, but at least you won't have to pay tuition fees or alimony if things don't work out with the Mrs.... and they'll be gone before you know it, so hug your babies every chance you get.🤗

Okay, I may have had a little slip in reality here 😄😜 I just think this could be a once-in-a-life-time opportunity.
Especially if you nix the flowerpot once they're gone.😄😍
