What Movies Are You Viewing?

  • Sisterwife!! You are a brilliant wordsmith.  Thank you for that info.  I am now certain that the content is just too intense for me.  I'm not sure that "being an an empath" is a real thing - but I am certain I have too much empathy than my heart can handle and just the things I've  read about the book had me worried about the author, his mother, his future - so many things I can't say without spoiling it.  I had heard it compared to We Need to Talk About Kevin - and that book haunted me.  Lionel Shriver, A.M. Homes, and Bret Easton Ellis are authors I avoid because of the intense, unapologetic sense of unease I'm left with after reading their books (Clive Barker too).  Something about the style and subject matter of their books leaves me unsettled for too long.  Do you think you'll read the book now?

I have seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I really enjoyed it.  When I read that Charlie Kaufman did I'm Thinking of Ending Things, I felt he would be really well suited for that project.  Totally his "thing".

I'd like to see Lenny - I don't know much about him - he appears as a character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  (I've watched 2 seasons, I'm keeping the 3rd waiting for a bit longer).  His shock value comedy seems mundane to me now (but we grew up with Richard Pryor).

I did not watch Mother - my son told me it would trouble me and that's all it took. He said the visuals would bother me.  I've read a bit about it, and I think he's right.  Though it seems the story is not too unsettling. I think I'd be good at understanding the symbolism in that.

The Ogre is watching Silver Bullet (it's on AMC this morning).  Somehow he's never seen it - it's one of my favorites.
I might someday read the book. I read enough after watching the movie that I know it is different than the source material.

Mother! has very strong religious overtones that are violent and unsettling.  Depraved and rotten.  There are extremely troubling visuals in this movie.  And sounds.

I liked the movie because of the creativity and timing that everyone had to have to move through this environment. It was like a ballet of oddity.  And I do like to be pushed out of my comfort zone from time to time.  Engages my brain.

Has anyone here watched Antebellum?  It's On Demand which I don't have.  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I've liked Millie Bobby Brown since I first saw her in THE INTRUDERS. She was only 9 or 10 but had to channel being inhabited by an old man and she was so good. I had a feeling then that we'd see a lot more from her.

  • Millie is absolutely enchanting in this role.  I love her.

Ms. Carter is her odd self as always in a more normal odd way, but she is perfect her role.

  • Not sleeping well this morning so I'm  starting to watch an old favourite of mine,

It! The Terror From Beyond Space. Basically the precursor of Alien. A spaceship lands on the planet Mars on a rescue mission and when they take off a murderous life form has crept on board and starts picking the crew off one by one....

I'll try to find this for a Halloween movie marathon in October.

  • Enola Holmes is charming.

  • Watched Enola Holmes, really enjoyed it, everything about it worked, great performances, great design, wouldn't be surprised if a sequel was greenlit. Definitely worth a watch if you have not seen it.

That was really good, but very weird, fantastic performances from Pattinson and Dafoe.

I was quite pleased with pattinson as i thought he was a crap actor.  He had to reach deep for this performance.

Watched The Devil All The Time, a tale of post war love, depression and murder. It has a terrific cast and everybody gives excellent performances, but I found the whole thing just too depressing to watch, I really struggled through it. It is good but be prepared for a tough watch. Oh and Hedda, Pattinson gives another great performance in this one..

It's all so hot and miss now, the amount of stuff I started watching on Netflix, I get two or three episodes in and just couldn't be arsed watching any more.

  • Watched Straight Outta Compton. The story of the group N. W. A.  I thought this was pretty good,  even if you're not a fan of rap there's a lot to enjoy here. The performance were all really good. I liked N. W. A. 's stuff, they had some excellent tracks, it was interesting to see the story behind it all.

....they were and ARE a major force in the genre.....it's funny, I have grown to appreciate rap more as I've gotten older....used to make me want to chase kids off my lawn, and I was a kid!!....
