If you post enough, like me, you get editing abilities for a week!  I can edit for a week!  Thank you Bev!  Because my fingers type before my brain engages and God only knows what ends up here.

  • Bev, I would really be interested in your thoughts on women in horror writing.

Yes, I've seen them.  They are out there.  But the horror genre is just heavily populated by men.  I'm not having some #MeTooWantToScareTheShitOutOfYou moment here, nor am I speaking to some affirmative action for women to be represented -- you are someone who has been on that other side of publishing where you have received things to read to include in a contest or anthology, do you not see that many women submitting?

Again, there are a few popular women horror writers, but the numbers are just not the same as men horror writers.

    What's your take on that?

  • Most of the women writers in horror that I know write some of the most extreme, graphic stuff I've ever read! They're almost all in the small and micro press environment. A few have made it to mainstream publishing. I don't really have my finger on the pulse of horror -- I read and write more crime fiction these days.

....indeed they do, I have read several small press anthologies and they go right after you with a straight razor to the mind's eye.....

  • Bev, have you made it into an Ellen Datlow anthology?  If so, which one and what story?

  • I never have. Most of hers are by invitation only, and she's never asked me. They had one with an open submission period, but they didn't take my submission.

Indeed, some of the best horror writers at the moment are women. :)
