It wasn't a very forgiving format, I made quite a few mistakes and couldn't remove them, I had to keep rubbing them to try and blend them in, it worked to some degree. I wish I'd just used pencil.
Agree, I had the same problem...and on canvas?! What the f'k was I thinking? 🙄
That painting was great, Flakes. Nothing to bury your head in your hands for. Great, you hear!! And your face painting was good too, Notaro. When i paint something people can never guess what it is, and neither can i. I'm horrible at painting

I sketched this in 2004 after the big flood that knocked out our power and water. (for weeks)
The bank behind our houses fell into the river, a house up in the corner of the street was washed away, we were evacuated over night by the fire department.
The bank slippage stopped literally at our section, we lost a few trees, that's all. We were lucky, the neighbour next door lost their garage.

(this is charcoal on canvas, which was a huge mistake lol)

    Love it Flakes......

I did one sketch using charcoal..... wasn't a fan of using it...

Another thing that is really hard to do -- faces. Getting the proportions right (unless you are going for something abstract, obviously) is an extremely difficult thing to do and takes great skill.

    Super job.
I couldn't reply to this properly earlier as I was racing out the door to work. (I hope you knew what I meant, as it didn't come out right. 😧)
I meant that I also found using charcoal a difficult and unforgiving medium. It's really messy to use and like you said just doesn't erase.

You did a fantastic job, I love the detail and the shading is really good. You are so much better at proportioning than I am. Nice job, Irish!

  • And I quoted the wrong message. 😳🙄😔
It's not my day... that was meant to be in response to the sketch that Irish did.

Flakers, have you been holding back?  Have I seen this? Have you shared this before? are you just a big fat liar?  This is so good.  And I am thrilled to see you framed it properly.
I'm not sure if I'd shown you this or not? Maybe not? 🤔 I would have done this not long before we 'met' on the original SKMB, I would probably have been too shy. (I wish I was as shy when we did that story, those drawings were hideous. 😄)

(& Thanks for the kind comments you guys. 💜)

I used to do some sketching when I was a kid but I lost the knack. My wife has done some art from time to time, I love the colours in this one....

She's very talented. I love this. And for the record, you might be out of practice but I don't think you can lose the knack. Give it a try! :)

That is amazing, Flakes! How have I missed that you have this artistic talent along with all your many others? Thank you for sharing so that we can all see this side of you.

Being able to do faces is a special skill set (even some professional artists have difficulty) and you've done a great job here.

Another technique that i find interesting. Counted cross stitch is a focus craft/art. I don’t  have the focus.  Very nice spidey.

She also does some decoupage, she'll spend hours glueing bits of paper or cloth to picture frames or small pieces of furniture.

I think that worked?   This is my goofy piece of art.  You take very wet paint, blob on your canvas and then take a straw and blow the paint around.  Let it dry and create monsters.

a technique i was trying to hopefully do with my little boys. It turned out pretty cool and my older son called dibs on the 3 different monsters i created. It reminds him of some show he watched as a kid. I think it was called Real Monsters?????

  • Very cool! I saw the eyes immediately and looks like teeth to me. It has sort of a Rorschach feel to it to me, as there are so many different ways you could interpret the images within it.

Thanks !  I can see my little boys having a lot of fun with this — and there are no stinkin’rules for monsters — you can make them as weird as you want!

i hope i get to be with them soon. 😔
