I used to do some sketching when I was a kid but I lost the knack. My wife has done some art from time to time, I love the colours in this one....

So beautiful... I'm drawn to butterflies. I like what they represent, change and rebirth/new life.

Speaking of inks, my boys and i did this as a gift for their  momโ€™s birthday. The boys dripped ink on each tile making sure to have that yellow in each corner to tie the tiles together.  After they dried, i added the flower embellishments and mounted them to a, i think it was a 10 x 10 canvas.  Is turned out so beautiful.

....that is calming art, not something that would irritate me if I were sentenced to look at it for a long time.... :D....seriously though, it's very very pretty, makes my eyes smile....

  • I sketched this in 2004 after the big flood that knocked out our power and water. (for weeks)
The bank behind our houses fell into the river, a house up in the corner of the street was washed away, we were evacuated over night by the fire department.
The bank slippage stopped literally at our section, we lost a few trees, that's all. We were lucky, the neighbour next door lost their garage.

(this is charcoal on canvas, which was a huge mistake lol)

This is absolutely professional stuff.  The butterfly is so good, but let's take a look at that background.  Do you know how hard backgrounds are?  And they can make or break a painting.  There is a lot of subtle color blendings and techniques applied to that background.

    Very nice.

I love how this is displayed, very creative.  And again, this is a skill I wish I had.  Crocheting, knitting -- I so wish I could do this.  If someone shows me and we work together, I can complete something.  But to sit down and read instructions and create -- just no way.

I really like this.  I have a thing for bags (along with pens/pencils and papers.)

Thanks.  I'm a bright girl.  I tend to create bright.  Maybe a little too bright sometimes.   :D

Flakers, have you been holding back?  Have I seen this? Have you shared this before? are you just a big fat liar?  This is so good.  And I am thrilled to see you framed it properly.

Another thing that is really hard to do -- faces. Getting the proportions right (unless you are going for something abstract, obviously) is an extremely difficult thing to do and takes great skill.

    Super job.

  • Thanks Hedda, I did that about 35 years ago, I usually just copied album covers or anything gruesome, I did the above in charcoal because I thought it would be interesting to try, didn't use it again ๐Ÿ˜€

What was it about charcoals that you didn't like.  It's a good medium to give you depth, shadows, show aging -- which is all terrific for a face.  What medium do you wish you would've done that in?  It's very good.

  • It wasn't a very forgiving format, I made quite a few mistakes and couldn't remove them, I had to keep rubbing them to try and blend them in, it worked to some degree. I wish I'd just used pencil.
