this is just an interesting story. Beautiful man.  If you can’t walk past a display of rainbows and pride shirts without getting all triggered, you better take a closer look at yourself.

Any man who reacts with fear and disgust, I suspect you are Gay.  Embrace yourself.

  • House of Hammer - freaks. The whole bunch. Interesting doc series.

It’s getting harder and harder for me to separate the artists from the art. But I won’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Many many people are involved in creating things (sometimes) and i win’t punish their efforts because of one asshat involved in the work.

This is a new one 2023 with Hawass. Not sure how he got back in good graces. He was accused of some bad stuff.  Kurben, do you know the details?

That was very informative but written in 2011.  He was fired , than reinstated, and then gone again???  Is he back in the position now? I didn’t realize this job had 30,000 employees under his supervision.  Impressive.

Well, as said in the link above he was fired first by mubarak, then came the Arabian spring  movement 2011 and he was taken back and then it fell apart and he was sacked again for his closeness to the mubarak family. The main difference between then and now is that then he was a politician and an archaeologist. Now he is just an archaeologist. And he is one that knows how too grease the media (thats why he became a politician) and use them. But i would not call his approach to tv-series and the like objective. He has not in career been open to interpretations that has another opinion than his and is very good at downplaying them if mentioning them at all. And since things like TV-series and documentaries often has to pass by his hands when it comes to egypt they are often rather onesided. Zahi Hawass is a good archaeologist if a bit oversuspicious against new methods like DNA. The latest i heard (10 years ago admittedly) he was strongly against it being allowed on mummies. He has a clothes brand that promotes clothes like Archaeologists wore of old, even a hat that looks very much like an Indiana Jones hat. His knowledge cant be put in question put according to me and some friends i have that are specialists of that type of archaeology his trustworthyness can very much be put into question. Even when he was the big boss he was more interested in making TV-series and things than funding some actual research. He has always spearheaded the movement that the big finds that are in the big museums in Louvren, Berlin and London shall return to Egypt. Like the Rosetta Stone, the Nefertiti bust and so on. But the governments there and their advisors doesn't trust him more than i do. So all said no. In the future i see it as a possibility but not under Hawass and not under a miltary dictatorship.

This is all very interesting coming from you and others in your field. You all admire his knowledge but question his integrity.  Boy oh boy, absolute power corrupts absolutely.  It’s disappointing.

    The Capote Tapes. Hulu

This was interesting but sad. Truman was hot with the upper crust of society in New York. Rubbing shoulders with the richest people. Invited to all their parties. He thought it was because they enjoyed his intelligence and conversation. Well, yes and no.

He was more like a clown, a performer to them. He was there for entertainment, to make fun of. And when he realized, it broke his heart. But, he played the flamboyant part and became their pocket gay. Listening to their secrets, watching their behavior. He enjoyed the parties.  And he was supposedly writing a book about them — Answered Prayers. Exposing their lives under obvious pseudonyms.

He got a million dollar advance for it. He published some scathing excerpts that lost him his high society friends. One stayed in contact but the rest never spoke to him again.

I think this is where he really spiraled down. He jumped into the Andy Warhol/studio 54 scene and dug his grave basically.

He died and the book was never published. Many believe there never was a book. But close friends say there was.

Where is it? And who would care about these more than likely long dead society people, most with names I didn’t even recognize?

Spot on. He sure did. I would read it too, but I’m not sure there would be a lot more. I may be underestimating the power of any posthumous Capote book. 😄

Is Take Care of Maya on Netflix Where to Watch the Documentary - NewOnNetflixinfo

  • I watched this (Taking Care of Maya) today too.
It broke my heart, it's absolutely horrific and gut wrenching. So many tears. Her little brother almost undid me, actually. 😭

  • Tonight I watched "The Making of The Thing" on YouTube, it was fantastic. Hugely informative.
It's incredible just how much work went into the making of this film and mind blowing that it barely broke even, was in fact deemed to be a failure when it was released.

Thankfully the viewers and critics has reevaluated it. It is now seen as one of the best SF horror movies ever. I think it suffered from coming in the same year as ET. A more, shall we say, positivie view on alien visitation

The Making of The Thing — youtube - great recommendation Flakers. Agree with you, the creativity is just amazing.

Rob Bottin is now my second husband after Dave Barry.

And I love the fact John Carpenter decided on an all male cast. Perfect decision. One female would’ve ruined it completely. Just my opinion.

Isn't Rob an absolute hoot? He's so fizzy, just like a kid but in adult form. 😃 Enthusiasm and creative energy that I doubt he could turn off if he tried!

James Cameron — Deepsea Challenge. — Freevee

i really recommend this one.  The doc’s focus is not Titanic but the research, science and engineering of their sub.

Take a gander at Jame’s sub compared to the soup can the five people died in.  No comparison.  I can’t believe these people paid 250,000 dollars.

I don't know why those people in the soup can disturbed me so much.  I think it was the word 'emploded'  like a crushed can of coke.

I have read that those 'rich' people were turned into dust like in Pompeii.

I will take a look at this James Cameron one.  Thanks.

Keeper of the Ashes — The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders — Hulu

I was a Girl Scout.  I went to camp. I think I was 9 or 10.  And the platform tents with canvas tops and side/front/back flaps were scary. Open to the forest on the back side, open to the center campfire on the front.

As a 9 year old, I looked at that fucking trap and strategically planned where my sleeping bag would be — right in the middle of the tent surrounded by girls. And you know why? No shit, I saw that layout as an easy way for something to reach in and drag me out into the dark forest black if I was close to either opening.
I can bet you money right now that no other 8, 9,10,11 year old was envisioning a week of s’mores, crafts and monster abduction.
I happily threw my Girl Scout sisters to the wolves to sleep snug as a bug in a sandwich of potential victims.  Smack dab in the middle of much better bait than myself.
