Haven

edited January 2014 in General news
The Syfy series Haven, loosely based on the Stephen King short-story “The Colorado Kid”, will be back starting on September 21 and will include among its upcoming guest stars actress Laura Vandervoort, best known for her role as Kara on the long-running WB/CW series ‘Smallville’.

According to TV Line, Vandervoort will appear in two episode – the 12th and 13th to be exact – playing a “highly intelligent and beautiful woman who as returned to the town of Haven for the latest cycle of Trouble”. But, sadly, her visit will not be a happy one as she is “driven to the brink of madness by the loss of a loved one”. What kind of trouble (literally) will that bring the town, right?

  • I am pretty pumped for this season - hopefully not unrealistically so.

Given the story arc for the season, the announced guest stars - especially Claudia Black who ruled as Aeryn Sun on FarScape, and the general improvement in the show as it has found its footing; this should be a very entertaining season.
  • syFy announced last night that they've renewed Haven for a fourth season.

  • One of my tweets was just retweeted by "Audrey Parker" actress Emily Rose. My day is complete. :D
  • Congrats!

I have been enjoying the overarcing story line quite a bit this season but the cliched 'characters won't talk to each other and characters flirting with other characters' bits have me annoyed and disappointed on those fronts.

So Season 3 has been a mixed bag for me - love the big stuff, disappointed in the character stuff.  And its the character stuff that keeps me coming back to a story.   :'(
  • Per Emily Rose:

HUGE NEWS! We got a 26 ep. pickup! 13 new HAVEN eps-fall & icing on the cake 13 more eps in 2015. #workingmybuttoff #DiscoverHaven #truth

  • My daughter and I visited the set of Haven last week -- here's my blog entry about that trip, with pictures.
  • Awesome write up!  Would love to have you come on our King podcast to talk about it!
  • Sure -- that'd be great. I can't talk about any of the Season 5 stuff I saw, but everything else is fair game.
  • Great! How does sometime in late July sound?
  • Sounds fine to me. I'll be at NECON in a couple of weeks, but other than that I'm free.
  • Hans is not available until August so I'll check back with you then.  Thanks.
  • Okie-dokie. By then I should have finished my binge rewatch of S1-4.
  • Hopefully you won't be too bloated!

There will be a new recurring character this season, played by Laura Mennell, as Dr. Charlotte Cross, a brilliant and beautiful epidemiologist from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who fears the town of Haven is on the verge of a deadly viral outbreak.

Dr. Cross is a worldly scientist whose focus is investigating the diseases that plague mankind. She’s a force to be reckoned with, as Audrey Parker (Emily Rose), Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant) and Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour) quickly discover. Meanwhile, Dwight Hendrickson (Adam Copeland) works overtime to keep the Troubles hidden from Charlotte. But when she unknowingly uncovers a genetic marker found only in Troubled people, the residents of Haven realize her discovery could lead to a scientific cure for the Troubles that plague the town.

When the series returns this fall, Haven’s protectors are thrust into uncharted waters: Duke is now a ticking time bomb fighting to contain the Troubles within him, while Nathan faces his greatest fear that Audrey – the woman he’s fought so desperately to save – may be gone forever.
  • I'm writing a series of essays about Haven in the lead-up to the season premiere. Part 1 — What the hell kind of town is this?
  • "But when she unknowingly uncovers a genetic marker found only in Troubled people, the residents of Haven realize her discovery could lead to a scientific cure for the Troubles that plague the town."

Why does this remind of midichlorians?  :-<
  • Check out my Season 1-4 recaps at NewsFromTheDeadZone.com.

Also, note that Season 5 launches this week, and the first episode has moved ahead two hours to 8/7C. My DVR does not yet acknowledge this change.

And -- I won Season 4 on DVD from eOne in their caption contest for this image:

I asked Sam Ernst the following on Twitter (during the show last night): Are you treating the 26 episodes as two seasons? Do you have an end game in mind?”

His answer: Yes, to both definitely.
  • Well beyond Jayne Alexander and thinnies that was a pretty sloppy and awkward start to Season 5.
  • You think so? I liked it.

I tweeted: "I worry about Dave. I worry a lot." and Sam Ernst responded: You should. You really should."

I really like the reversal of Duke's Trouble. He no longer absorbs blood and Troubles, he exudes them.
  • I would like it too if some plausible explanation had been put forth.  Hopefully a Jennifer legacy...
