Went brainless and rewatched The Meg, hasn't gotten any better since the first time I saw it. The shark looks cool but the acting by the two main leads......jeez, it's bad.
    I've not seen this one.

I'm a sucker for monster movies, giant creature features, the main problem with this one is Jason Statham, he's ok jumping around kicking the sh*t out of bad guys but can he act....nope, this needed someone who could actually flex their acting chops not their biceps. Mind you even Statham was disappointed with the finished product, it was meant to be way more graphic but apparently the Chinese financiers insisted that the majority of the gore be cut out.  A pity really.
  • How can you have The Meg and no gore?  Sort of counterintuitive really.
  • We watched the new Call of the Wild with Harrison Ford last night. I have never read the book ( :o I know) but the movie was great. My only complaint was the dog was CGI. At times very realistic and believable, but at other times, I could really tell.
  • Rewatched a couple,

  • I loved those.  I'll get up every day and "wind the clock" of routine and normalcy.

  • I've recorded Paper Moon starring the O'Neals.  I've never seen this one all the way through, just bits and pieces.

  • We watched Suicide Kings on Saturday night. Not sure how we missed that one over the years, it was the first time seeing it for both of us! We loved it.

Last night, caught Casino again. Missed about the first half hour, but I love that movie.

Now I'm in full blown mob mood and want to get out my Sopranos dvds. And The Godfather movies. My daughter made me laugh, she asked me if that was a mob movie. I said, It's THE mob movie! She said, Oh, I thought it was some religious thing.   :D

I have been watching Sopranos myself!  And I love Suicide Kings.  Love it.  I love Christopher Walken here.   And Dennis Leary.  "It's that rap shit, isn't it?"

I watched Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.  That was definitely a blast from the past.

Then I watched a recommend from fljoe over at SKMB with Sydney Poitier and Anne Bancroft called The Slender Thread. It's a gritty black and white that I really enjoyed.  There were many recognizable faces in this too, young and vibrant.

While Sydney gives his typical indignant speech-type performance, it was good and I can't say enough great things about Anne Bancroft.  What an artist!

Both of those movies were on the Criterion Channel.

As I recommended over there, I will recommend again.  If you have not seen 'night Mother with Anne and Sissy Spacek, you are missing out on a terrific piece of work.

A different type of movie so if you're looking for a shoot em' up action packed thing, this isn't it.  This is an intimate look at two women, mother and daughter, and you watch this movie to watch Sissy and Anne.  They are brilliant and seamless and believable.  Such a beautiful, sad film.

  • I am super excited that Disney+ will be showing Hamilton.

Right before the great Covid Pandemic of 2020 hit, I upgraded a couple phones and the Disney+ channel was free for a year.  So yay!

  • Watched The Hunt, a group of people are kidnapped and then released, they then find themselves being hunted for sport.  This movie is a political animal so I won't make any comments on that, suffice to say it is an enjoyable romp, very violent but with a good dollop of humour included.

I will definitely give this a go.

The movie with Vivian, Marlon etc... was a great ensemble piece with terrific performances.

Agreed, not a bad movie. I wished I looked at good as he does while inflicting movie violence upon people. There's just something a bit more demoralizing about getting shot by a guy with that chiseled of a jawline and a stellar beard.

I watched one on Netflix called The Platform.

This was really fascinating.  It would have been a perfect movie to discuss with a group of people.  If you could really get them to actually discuss it.  Debate it. Challenge ideas.

Most discussions are labeled discussions and aren't really that at all.

I would enjoy a group talking about what this meant. What each character represented. What the situation represented.  What the ending said about the whole thing.  How this spoke to our society today.

I really liked this because it is that "think piece" you hear about.

Also watched Coming Home with Jane Fonda and Jon Voight.  This was good. I think I saw it when it came out but don't remember a lot about it for some reason.  Maybe I was making out with some guy.

    Anyway,
both Fonda and Voight were very brave and I was very surprised by the sex scene in it.  What was this rated originally?  I felt this was probably a pretty honest portrayal of being a vet, although very shocking at the time, it really doesn't show the horror that these vets face coming home. Trying to be normal.  Trying to fit in. Trying to forget.

    Good flick.

  • Started watching Murder Manual, an anthology horror flick, eight segments at a aout 10 minutes each, got to segment three or four and switched it off, dull as dishwasher. Rewatched The Monster instead, started off as a drama about family dysfunction and morphs into a monster movie, decent, the  two leads are good and it has a good original looking creature design.

  • Watched Men In Black International, didn't think much of it to be honest. I guess if you liked the other three then you may like this one. Today we had a James Bond double bill, The Spy Who Loved Me  &  Live A d Let Die,  great fun.
