Popular Culture Association seeking papers
Stephen King Area: 2008 National PCA/ACA Conference (11/1/07; 3/19/08-3/22/08)
Location: California, United States
Call for Papers Date: 2007-11-01
Date Submitted: 2007-08-31
Announcement ID: 158036
The Stephen King Area of the Popular Culture Association is seeking papers for the Annual National Joint Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference to be held March 19-22, 2008 at the San Francisco Marriot.
Papers which cover any aspect of Stephen King—his fiction, films, non-fiction, King in the classroom, the King phenomenon—are sought for this area. For the 2008 National PCA/ACA conference, we would like to note that we are quite interested in papers which focus on The Dark Tower series (and the recently released graphic novels, The Gunslinger Born). Of course, papers which focus on King’s early writing, the Bachman books, and King’s uncollected writings, to name a few additional topics, are most certainly welcomed.
NOTE: Graduate students are highly encouraged to submit proposals, papers or panels.
Papers should be limited to a reading time of 15-20 minutes (3 person panels allow for 20 minute papers while 4 person panels allow for 15 minute papers; panels will be formed in late November in order to provide panelists ample time to adjust their presentations).
Panels of 3 or 4 presenters unified around a particular theme or work within the King canon are also welcome. Please send complete panel proposals along with brief abstracts of each paper.
All presenters must be (or become) members of the PCA or ACA and must register for the conference. Membership and registration forms will be sent upon presentation acceptance. Paper acceptance obligates participants to present the paper at the conference, and multiple submissions to different areas are not allowed. Please note that you must be present at the conference to read your own paper.
To have your proposal considered for presentation, please email or send a 200-300 word abstract by November 1st, 2007, complete with your name, affiliation, and contact information to either:
