Lisey's Story: #1 on USA Today mixed list
Crown him King:
Stephen King, whose Lisey's Story enters USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list at No. 1, has scored with readers and another group that hasn't always embraced him — critics. He's earning strong reviews for his horror/love story about the widow of a best-selling novelist, with some (such as The Washington Post) praising Lisey as "literary fiction." That's a major coup for King, who in 2003 was the controversial winner of the National Book Foundation's Distinguished Contribution to American Letters Award. In his acceptance speech, King acknowledged that some critics think he's a "rich hack" but said he hoped the award would help build bridges "between the so-called popular fiction and the so-called literary fiction. ... There's a great deal of good stuff out there, and not all of it is being done by writers whose work is regularly reviewed in the Sunday New York Times Book Review."
