King on the radio

edited June 2004 in General news
HE OWNS A RADIO STATION,Y'KNOW, BUT HE WRITES BETTER THAN HE TALKS:

Maine author Stephen King was a guest on WZGC-FM in Atlanta Tuesday and weighed in on the Federal Communication Commission's recent crackdown on Howard Stern, a conversation that took place a couple of days before Clear Channel Communications agreed to pay the FCC more than $1.7 million in fines, mostly because of things said on Stern's show.

``It makes me angry, and it's silly, and what happened to Howard Stern is silly,'' King said.``I don't listen to him; I think he's silly. But at the same time I think he ought to have a right to be silly on the radio. . . . The way it works in America, or the way it's supposed to work in America - if (Stern's) saying stuff on the radio that you don't like, if it offends you, you got a hand. You reach out, take hold of the knob, turn it off. He's gone - goodbye . . . You don't need a politician in your living room to say you got to put a Band-Aid over that guy's mouth.''

  • Amen to that - and I can't stand Howard Stern. I think he's the lowest form of "celebrity," and the whole "shock-jock" thing needs to be buried in a shallow grave. Still, I express my feelings about Stern by NOT LISTENING TO HIM - not petitioning Congress to get rid of him for me.

Others like him, and while I don't get it, I'm not going to take it away from them. There are plenty of people who don't like King's work, and I don't want them taking it away from me...
