Episode 5

The episode of “Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital” entitled “The Young and the Headless” moves to the series’ new day and time, airing from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET. In this all new episode, Mrs. Druse and Hook use Peter Rickman’s drawings as a guide to make contact with Mary and her nemesis, Paul, and begin to navigate through the trenches of Kingdom Hospital’s horrifying past. Meanwhile, Dr. Traff’s attempt at a love prank on sleep psychologist Dr. Lona Massingale goes terrifyingly wrong.

I'm still working to confirm this, but it appears KH will be on both Wednesday and Thursday this week, probably with two new episodes.

Author: newinside

The website for my local abc here in Columbus lists the following:

Wednesday at 10: KH episode “Hook's Hospital”
Thursday at 9: KH episode “The Young and the Headless”

I don't know how much the local station is in the know, however.

I also don't know if this link will work.

This is what I also got out of TV Guide.com for my local listings!

I can dig two episodes in a row! :) :)

Author: newinside

I am a bit confused, though. If “Young and the Headless” is the new episode 5, does that mean that the Wednesday episode is a repeat from last week?

So far ABC is 0/2 for providing reliable information about repeat episodes!

Having just watched Salem's Lot, I was particularly intrigued by the scene where Abel and Crista went to visit Dr. James but wouldn't enter his office until he specifically invited them in.

I liked the little bit between Steg and “Jackie Gleason.” The old guy was a hoot!

I'm not sure that Nat has eyes for Hook, especially after he went all paranormal on her this week!

I didn't see MISERY, I saw THE WASTELANDS!!! I kid you not! It looked just like my copy in Trade that I got years ago and I kept trying to read the title. They finally got a close up of her with the book and i SWEAR it said THE WASTELANDSSTEPHEN KING. I had been hoping it might be IT or THE STAND, but I swear I saw WASTELANDS.

And I'm hoping something else happens with Antibus.

Bev, I thought the same thing about Abel and Crista, having just finished listening to 'SALEM'S LOT

    Author: Bev Vincent

Now here's a situation where my colorblindness conspired against me, I think. Something I completely missed in last week's episode was that Abel and Crista were wearing pink uniforms after their meeting with Jesse James, presumably to exclude them from Steg's scope of suspicion, since he was looking for orderlies with white costumes. I never even noticed that they'd switched to pink -- that was beyond my range of color discrimination.

    Author: Lin242

IT, :) I swear if it had been The Wastelands, I might have just loved her at that moment, it being my fave book and all. It was definitely Misery, but there was only one point in time where you could read it clearly. I thought it was about four different books until I saw that particular shot. As it stands, Mrs. Rickman is still not cooking in my books. :D

Bev, I barely noticed they switched to pink, it was a very very light pastel from where I sat. In fact, it was only in retrospect when I saw that point made, that I thought, oh yah, that's what was different. I think I was more focused on them holding hands as they were walking down the hall. It makes them seem so conspiratorial. :~

Having missed Ep #5 I can only envisoin what you guys are talking about. Thumbs Down to the Alphabet Net for not showing the repeat performance last Thursday. Helping my 11th grader with homework, I was confident that the following night I would see Ep #5! Obviously the board at Stephenking.com was inundated with messages prompting the note from King stating that he did not know what ABC was up to with Ep #5!

    Author: Bev Vincent

I actually read King's message as him wondering what they were doing with the series in general by moving it against CSI and other strong competitors.

    Author: Lin242

Yes, can we include hockey play-offs in that Thursday night spot please?

    Yikes....

    Author: Stalkingbutler

Was it just me, or was that Stephen Kings voice on the other end of the cell phone at the beginning of the show last night? Sounded just like him... Accent and everything. It was when one of the “Keepers” was in his limo and talking on the phone. Did anyone else catch this?

    Author: Bev Vincent

It may well have been. I'll have to watch that part again. I'd heard he was going to do an audio cameo. That could have been it. I still have about 15 minutes of the episode left to watch.

    Author: IT

If it was him, I totally missed it, and my TV sound has gone on the fritz, Didn't sound like him to me, but that sure don't mean I'm right!! ;)

I really liked it last night! Found it a bit more tense!

!@#$ !@#$ !@#$ forgot to tape it...... we had family literally show up on our doorstep and we went out to dinner. Only when my friend sent a message to my phone at 11:00, did I remember that I hadn't set up the VCR. (she had also forgotten, and was hoping I hadn't)

ABC Throws 'Kingdom Hospital' to Ratings Wolves

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - ABC has all but unplugged the life support machinery for one of its newest dramas, “Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital,” after four weeks of hemorrhaging ratings.

ABC said on Monday it would move the struggling program next week to 9 p.m. on Thursdays for the remainder of its run, essentially throwing it to the ratings wolves opposite two of television's biggest hits -- “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” on CBS and “The Apprentice” on NBC.

Initially slotted against NBC's “Law & Order” juggernaut at 10 p.m Wednesdays, “Kingdom Hospital” has been one of ABC's biggest disappointments this season as the network struggles to rebuild its prime-time schedule.

The highly promoted 13-part drama from prolific horror writer Stephen King was touted by ABC as a key to its mid-season comeback strategy, and top executives of ABC's parent, The Walt Disney Co., have been under fire from shareholders who claim they have mismanaged the company.

One of the sore spots cited by the dissidents -- led by company namesake Walt Disney's nephew, Roy Disney, and his business partner Stanley Gold -- is the low-rated ABC network.

Based on a Danish miniseries and King's own experiences of being hospitalized after a near-fatal accident, “Kingdom Hospital” tells the story of a famous artist who wakes from a coma with telepathic powers in a haunted hospital.

But after a promising two-hour debut March 3, the thriller has declined steadily in both overall audience and the key demographic of viewers aged 18 to 49, the group most networks use as a benchmark of prime-time success.

Last week, the show averaged just 5.6 million viewers overall and a meager 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, down 57 percent in both categories from its premiere.

ABC plans to air a fifth episode of “Kingdom Hospital” this Wednesday before moving the show to its new Thursday berth next week. In its place next Wednesday, ABC will launch a new edition of romance reality show “The Bachelor” with a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. The following week, April 14, “Extreme Makeover” will move into the 10 p.m. Wednesday slot.

ABC has been on the ratings ropes since its onetime monster hit game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” collapsed from overexposure two years ago.

My wife walked in while the headless man was running around looking for his head! She just looked at me and said, “no wonder the show is tanking!”

    She just doesn't get it!

    Author: Stalkingbutler

LOL!!! The song that was playing while the headless body was running around was just PRICELESS!!! :D I can't wait for the next “musical scene”. King is just a brilliant and twisted comedian! I knew last week that Antibus wasn't in any danger. There was no way they could have killed of a character like that without at least revealing some of his background and purpose.

Don't listen to those so called “critics”. I don't remember who said it, but someone said that critics are just people who watch the battle from above and come down when it's over to shoot the survivors... I just recently hear Henry Rollins quote that from someone. Hemmingway? Churchill?

    Author: Bev Vincent

I'm pretty sure that was his voice. And yes, “Where's My Head?” was the perfect soundtrack to that scene. A really good episode. I almost felt sorry for the poor serial killer, who was so befuddled by what was going on he never really knew which way was up. Code Red! :D

    Author: IT

LOL!! CRinVA!!! So did my hubby!! He just turned around and went back downstairs!

    Author: jellyfish

:) Yeah for Antibus!! “He's horrible , but beautiful” Question for the females on here if any, do you find Paul kinda sexy?? I sure do!! And why didn't they show what happened after the serail killer caught hisself on fire?? :?

    Author: IT

Ooohh this age thing SUCKS!!! I have many audiobooks with King reading and his voice is very distinctive, but I DID NOT catch it if that was him on the phone Thursday!! (@) :@ And the worst part is I've been WAITING for something like that, and STILL I miss it!

Hope this comes out on DVD. I know there are lots of things I've missed and I need to see that blasted book Mrs. R was reading. I STILL swear I saw Wastelands. I had no title in mind when I was trying to catch a glimpse of it, so I won't be totally convinced til I see that episode again!

    Author: Narda

I'm positive it was King's voice on the phone. My kids saw the headless guy running around and they also looked at me like I was nuts. :)

    Author: Stalkingbutler

One of my favorite audiobooks to listen to is Bag of Bones. Stephen reads the whole thing, so the sound of his voice and accent are imbedded into my mind's voice. I'd know that voice anywhere. Is he suppsoed to have an “actual” cameo? In person I mean.

    Author: Bev Vincent

Yes -- my guess is that he will be the long-absent Johnny B. Goode in the final episode, but that's just speculation.

    Author: Stalkingbutler

Now THAT would be cool!!! I guess I should have paid better attention to that courtroom scene where the lawyar had the heart attack, but didn't the judge mention Johnny B. Goode's name?

    Author: Rache4173

Yes, I thought he was an absent juror or something?

    Author: Bev Vincent

Johnny B. Goode is Kingdom Hospital's custodian...but he's never there. One week a character said he was out on jury duty, but he didn't show up there, either. Each week it's been a different person acting as custodian in his place. Mr. B. Goode has never been seen...yet.

    Author: Stalkingbutler

YOWZA!!! I love promotions! Too bad I'm still enlisted though... Anyway, someone just told me that this week is the last one. That's not true, is it?

    Author: newinside

Unless something unfortunate has happened, this is not the last week.

There still are a handful (4? 5?) of episodes left.

    Author: Bev Vincent

The upcoming episode is #9 out of 13. It will run through to the end of May with a two-hour finale.

  • Author: Bev Vincent

King's office tells me today that Thursday night's episode will be a rebroadcast of Wednesday's episode. I guess that makes sense since from what I read on the VFX people's site they are scrambling each week to deliver the new episode with full effects on time so accellerating the schedule would cream them. However, I plan to watch on Thursday night just to make sure!

    Author: newinside

It is just me, or does the description at the start of this thread very clearly not describe the episode last night? It seems to be for next weeks show.

    Author: Lin242

I agree new... it may have been leading UP to that, but not there yet. I loved last night's episode by comparison to last week's. It moved along very well and held my interest. I still don't like the wife though. I thought her reading Misery was pretty creepy.... :) It is possible to detest Dr. Stegman more EVERY week. Yes.

    Lin :)

    Author: newinside

I am curious to see if the character of the wife is ever devolped more or if she is just there because it would be weird for Rickman to be in a coma and not have any family members around worrying about him.

Speaking of worrying, I find myself rather concerned about Antibus.

    Author: Lin's Steve

    Poor Antibus! !@#$
Why don't you like the wife Lin? - what bugs you about her?

    Author: BoSoxKing

I am sad about Antibus too. But since I missed the first part of the episode I'm glad they are showing it again tonight.

    Author: Rache4173

I have to tape it tonight if it's a replay... I was so tired last night that I fell asleep for the second half. ~0 And you guys are saying 'poor Antibus'... :?

    Definitely must tape it.

    Author: Bev Vincent

I finally got around to seeing last night's episode from tape tonight. A good show, I thought.

The surgery scene on the homeless guy -- in the original, the man was allergic to anaesthetics, so they brought in a guy to hypnotize him into not feeling pain during the surgery. The scene in Hook's Kingdom was better developed than in the original, I thought. Mrs. Druse's visit is new to King -- very few people gained access to Hook's inner sanctum in Riget, although Elmer Traff did have cause to be there, as will be revealed in future episodes.

The book the homeless group was reading appeared in one of the earlier episodes. I think it might end up having some significance, for reasons that may become clear later this year...

I forgot. What was that book they were discussing?

A Silence in Babylon, the same book the weeping guard was reading outside Peter's room. The author is Mordred Wilder.

So I missed Episode #5 on Wed night - so I says to myself, ”no problemo, I can catch it on the repeat on thursday night!” Duh, well all I got was another Extreme Makeover and an ad that says the move to Thursday night is next week! So, I missed Episode #5. Guess I'll have to wait to see that episode when the DVD comes out! !@#$ CRinVA is not happy!

    Author: Lin242

I know -- that was weird.. Steve checked also and it was Extreme Makeover.

Steve, sorry sweets, I missed your question about the wife--I didn't come back after I posted my little blurb.

Mrs. Rickman, or as her friends call her, “Nat” reminds me of the type of woman that will get bored real quick with her hubby being incapacitated. I think she already has eyes for Dr. Hook. I don't buy her sincerity, perhaps that's a better way to put it and I'm just reading all that stuff into her because of that. :~ :)
