Episode 9
Author: Bev Vincent
Earl Candleton, a retired major league baseball player, can't shake the memory of committing the error that cost the New England Robins the World Series years ago. From that day on, the nickname given to him by irate fans is “Butterfingers” and Earl can't get rid of the unflattering moniker or his shame. After a failed suicide attempt, he is admitted to Kingdom Hospital. His presence begins a chain reaction that opens up horrific old wounds and reverses history of the living and the dead, who inhabit the hospital.
A little bit of wishful thinking here, perhaps? Some projection, maybe?

Betcha Buckner will watch this!
Author: Lin242
Ah, Little Billy Buckner, who can forget. The miss heard round the world.
Isn't there a Candleton on Blaine's route-map? Or am I still really ill and disillusioned?

Isn't there a Candleton on Blaine's route-map?
There is indeed.

What happened to the little girl Steg butchered ?
I don't remember anything about her since she painted her room.
What did painting represent? No one in KH has said anything about that yet and that was a few shows ago.

Author: Lin242
Thanks for the confirm, Bev. That would have bothered me all day till I got home.
db, that little girl is kind of creepy, I'm anxious to see if anything further develops with her character -- surely she must find a way to take some type of revenge on Steg? I am interested in the painting too.

Damn! CSI is new AND looks really good also, so it looks like we'll have to watch KH upstairs and tape CSI downstairs. I knew the repeat thing was too good to last Rache. ~_~

Tonight is the season finale of Tru Calling at 8... and of course ratings sweeps on CSI...so I'll be taping KH
Just think Lin... we'll have KH on DVD PDQ. :~
Author: sheepish
I hope they finally get to more of what happened with the kids in the factory and the nasty doctor. That, to me, is the more interesting storyline involving Mary - I wish they had played it up (or at least hinted at it) a bit more earlier in the series.
Author: Lin242
Rache, I thought Tru Calling looked pretty good, but it never fit in to the sheduool. We'll tape CSI for tomorrow evening. Friday nights are LAME. You're right, in fact, I think the dvd for KH is a must-have even though I don't collect a lot of SK movies at all. :~
sheepish, agreed, I can't wait for all of that to unfold. Steg will get his somehow... I can't wait for that especially...

Do the leafs fall in spring? - or autumn? I can't remember
Author: Lin242
Okay, that spider crawling out of the dead woman's mouth was just wrong, and creepy!!! But it was funny too: “.... well.. are you going to help me UP or WHAT?”...
I liked last night's episode, although I didn't feel it really shifted things around like I thought it might, it was a little more subdued. Paul in the tank made me hold my breath because I have a fear of being enclosed in water.
Steve and I noticed “King” on the pitcher's shirt, and I think I noticed “Daniels” on another, Steve thought he might have seen “Madder”, I didn't see it though -- anyone, anyone??
Come on, Lin. Friday nights are for wild and crazy parties!
David, go to your room. I meant they are lame for TV.
Author: Stalkingbutler
Didn't anyone hear the announcer on the radio say that the game was like a “Stephen King horror story.”...? And right after Earl shot himself he said, “The fans are really quiet. It's like somebody died.” LOL!!!!
Comments
These small nuances are what draw me to Kingdom Hospital!

!@#$ I completely missed the second half of Tru Calling. That's what I get for not knowing it was a 2-hour finale. DOH!
I did get KH taped though - and just by glancing at your comments, I can't wait to watch it!!
Author: Lin242
SB, that is one reason I would love to have the dvd set on this particular series, there are so many little things like that and I bet I have missed more of them than I know when I'm involved in something else. Oh I loved that part with the announcer, very well timed.
Rache, I was thinking of you when I saw Tru Calling was 8-10. I figured you already knew. ~_~ We taped CSI which will be viewed this evening.

I think I heard at the end of KH last night that they were advertising a new episode on thursday in two weeks? What's with that? Is the shoe being pre-empted next Thursday? As DTUK would say, inquiring minds need to know
Author: Lin242
A pre-empted shoe? Do you mean show???
I wonder if Friends is a two-hour finale, maybe they don't want to bother going against that? I know last month there was a three-week delay before 24 resumed new episodes.
It's not totally uncommon, just annoying.

AAAAHHHHH!!!! LIN!!! Are you a 24 fan too!?!?!?!?! I'm so into that show, that if someone even makes a peep anywhere in the house when it's on, I go straight for the juggular!!! I'm rabid about that show. If I get the money, I'm gonna start marketing my new idea (Through FOX of course): The new W.W.J.B.D. bracelet. What Would Jack Bauer Do?
Have you seen the “Palmer for President” bumper stickers yet? Someone beat me to that already... :@
Author: newinside
STBMN and I watch 24 every week. If I could only watch one show a week, it would probably be 24.
Season 1 was great.

#) *Welcome Back new and sheepish* -- want to hear about the wedding. (I thought I better edit this to say your friend's wedding, in case people think you eloped.)
Stalking - - YES!!!! We love 24 at our house also and have never missed an episode for 3 seasons! The ONLY thing that really bugs us (and we thought we might get a break this year) is how Kim always gets involved in some major freaking crisis. ~0 Otherwise, fabulous -- you know Keifer is a Canadian boy, and the rest of the show is superbly cast. I LOVE David Palmer -- can you believe he was one of the baseball players in the movie Major League?? So funny. Sherry, well you have to LOVE to hate her.
Sorry to SPAM the KH thread. SB's fault.

No kidding. It is like she can't got a day without getting kidnapped. Though I thought that they played that up well in the last episode, making it look like she was going to get in trouble again at the end there. Some good misdirection.
I will give the wedding update elsewhere once I get through all of these other posts.

Gee, I was so involved in the Yankees game last night that I forgot about Kingdom Hospital ~_~ only to remember at 9:45pm. Actually I didn't remember - my wife went to bed and was channel surfing while I was on the internet - she called down to tell me what I was missing!
I did get to see that last 15 minutes, but would love to hear a recap of what happened in the first 45 minutes! !@#$ Any takers.
At least my Yankees pulled a sweep against Oakland and three of the best pitchers in the pros! And Derek Jeter ended an 0 for 31 slump with a homer.

From the Boston Globe comes
Gee with critics like this no wonder KH has no hope!
Author: Lin242
Morning Bob! We're still not quite used to the Thursday switch, but isn't it nice that Jeter gets paid millions and managed 1 hit out of 31 at bats? What a star!!!
I thought the episode was good, but it didn't revolve around a lot of things, moreso it centered on the baseball player as Bev's quoted section had pointed out.
Earl Candleton (the baseball player) had made a grievous error in a World Series Game in 1987 causing his team, The Robins, to lose. There was a lot of flashback on how his life had become worthless up to the present time. In the present, Earl is sitting at his kitchen table with a gun to his head, threatening to kill himself if the Robins lose the World Series (again). The staff of Kingdom Hospital at the same time is hanging on the game praying for a victory. However, The Robins lose, and Earl shoots himself, but doesn't die.
Therefore, he finds himself in Kingdom Hospital, not dead, but post-surgically lost between worlds where he finds himself with Paul (who is in some type of regeneration tank). Peter and Mary help Earl (apparently Antubis doesn't like the “between-worlds” place, so he doesn't tag along) come to grips with where he is, and somehow Mary (I think) gives him the chance to replay that 1987 game again, leading up to the point where he made the error. He catches the ball this time, and coming back to the present, all is okay with him.
Near the end, someone says “It's too bad about the Robins this year”, and Rickman's wife says, “yes, but at least we have 1987”. I thought that was cool.
I'm probably leaving stuff out, but the most critical thing is that Dr. Massengill wanted to give Earl Candleton an MRI because he was having REM sleep after surgery and had she done so, he would have been trapped forever in Swedeborgian space, or so claimed Mrs. Druse. Things worked out to prevent the MRI.
I hope this makes sense. Perhaps others can add in.

Thank You most kindly - I got most of that in the last 15 minutes, so wondering what did I really miss in the first 45 minutes! :?
Day before yesterday when Jeter was up to bat in the 8th with two outs and the bases loaded the Yankee crowd gave him a standing ovation - even when he was at 0 for 30! That is the respect that he draws! I think they were trying to cheer him into a hit - he grounded out to the first baseman!
This is the worst streak in his career - and hopefully it's over. The Yankees had 4 homers last night to sweep Oakland!
Author: Lin242
You know I always like to make a short story long, Bob. As I said, there wasn't a whole lot going on to lose track of.
I'm teasin' about Jeter, I've watched and loved baseball as long as I can remember and I know slumps are all a part of the game for even the best of players. What about those BoSox?? 15-6. Not too shabby...
Lin
Author: CRinVA
BOSOX need to keep it up so that King and O'Nan have a good journal to keep - then, in the true vein of horror (King and O'Nan both dwell in horror!), the writing will turn in that direction, at least for the SOX!
The Curse of the Bambino! is alive and well!
Speaking of The bambino - I was in the local Little League clubhouse and found this gem tacked up in the men's room. Its a poster of Babe Ruth - with that famous stance pointing to where his homerun was going to go. What is remarkable about the poster is the scribbling on it that appears authentic. It says ”Brady, this is real, the Babe really did point. I know as I was there! Lefty Gomez”
Seems no one cared and now I is the proud owner of this poster!
In case you don't know, Lefty Gomez was a famous Yankee hurler in the 30s and he is in the Hall of Fame! He has a 6 - 0 record pitching in World Series play!
