King intros HP Lovecraft

edited April 2005 in General news
Peter Straub did it, and now King writes his thoughts about HP Lovecraft in H. P. Lovecraft: Against the World, Against Life, by Michel Houellebecq, translated by Dorna Khazeni. Published by McSweeney's.

Who is Howard Phillips Lovecraft-whom Stephen King, in a lively introduction to Houellebecq's essay, describes as the "Dark Prince of Providence"

Dorna Khazeni's translation is padded out with two fine Lovecraft stories and an off-the-cuff introduction by Stephen King.

  • Bev, do you have a link?

  • Thanks, Bev.

    Mine's on order!

  • I read one of Houellebecq's novels a couple of years ago--what a strange trip that was. His name is pronounced something like "Wellbeck."
  • Bev, which one did you read? I read one of his novels a few years ago (without having any idea who he was) and it was . . . underwhelming, I would say. Kind of dull.

Perhaps I should have read a different one. :)
  • It was called The Elementary Particles.
  • Here's an essay by King about HP Lovecraft in the LA Times.
  • "Lovecraft's Pillow"

There, that's a teaser - now go read the article. Thanks for the link Bev!

Thanks. I may have to try something else of his at some point.

The book I read was Whatever - I picked it up randomly at a used book store - and the reviewer consensus seems to be that it was not one of his better efforts.
  • King's essay was great. Anyone going to take him up on the offer of writing a story about Lovecraft's pillow?
