  • Very cool indeed - but we must wait until Nov 1st for the release - to soo those extra 50 pages that is!

  • Soooo glad this is happening. I love "Salem's Lot," and I can't wait to read the extra material. And, I won't have to pay an arm and a leg either! (Well, at $30, maybe an arm....)

  • This is indeed great news for us working class folks. 8)
  • I hope this makes it to Amazon.co.uk - just checked - it's not there yet.

Is there anything of significance in the 50 extra 'Salem's Lot pages? Or is it the 460 page novel including the story "One for the Road"?
  • The extra pages contain deleted or rewritten scenes. Some of the characters have different names in the earlier version, for example. The basement scene at the boarding house that King has spoken about in the past is part of it.
  • Thanks, Bev.

I have an email from CD saying they will be getting copies of this book to sell cheaper than Doubleday.

But if Amazon.com releases the book, it's likely some copies will make their way to the UK too.

Hell: all these orders that are popping up over the summer is gonna knock the hell out of my holiday budget...sigh  :-/

Edited to say: I just checked Amazon and apparantly Hodder & Stoughton are publishing 'Salem's Lot on Dec 31, 2005 (624 pages) in hardback. Normally the UK hardback edition is just 460 pages. This sounds like it's the new book coming out.!! whoohooooo :D

They don't normally do this with a previously published book unless there are new developments. I wonder if Hodder & Stoughton is an imprint of Doubleday?

Can anyone else confirm this too?

I'll preorder it now and await developments.
  • I don't think H&S is an imprint of Doubleday, but they are King's publisher of record for everything in the UK, so his agent probably offered the newly packaged book to them at the same time as Doubleday.
  • Yeah, they are, Bev - most of my King hardbacks are from H&S. And what you said makes sense, so it could well be the new book :)
  • U.S. amazon does have the salem's lot to be released on November 1, 2005

at $23.10 it is cheaperfrom amazon than from doubleday or Cemetery Dance. i bought more than one copy and combined the shipping...and since the total purchase was over $25.00 , not getting charged for the shipping either.

i wonder if this is going to be in the regular bookstores?

    ~Sir Boomme
  • I expect it will be in regular bookstores since it's a Doubleday book.
  • I know the amazon.com route is cheaper but not by enough to stop me from buying from CD Pubs. Richard Chizmar is a class act and I don't mind supporting his company!

Many years ago when I finally got up the gumption to buy a S/L and it was with CD. Up to then I just never would dream of spending that kind of money. Then one Friday night my wife said why don't you just call and order it - it was The S/L of The Best of Cemetery Dance - 400 copies to be sold!

I colled the 800 # on a Friday night after 11:00pm and left a message. Richard called me around Midnight! He was very appologetic and told me that the book was sold out. I was devastated. I told him it was to be my first venture into an SK S/L. He paused for a moment and said - tell you what I always hold back a couple copies - you can have one. So that was my start into buying books other than the copies found in Waldenbooks or B orders!

I currently have about 8 or 9 orders in with CD Pubs!

I even have a lifetime subscription to the magazine!

  • Anyone have any idea about the size of the print run for the trade Salem's Lot?

    John
  • No, and that figure will not likely be readily available. Thousands and thousands.
