Flipping into the Territories
Peter posted this on his newsgroup, so I thought I'd mirror it here for posterity. Someone asked about whether he or King originated the concept of flipping as in Traveling Jack Sawyer's mode of travel. He responds:
The good old "flip" came from an ancient Daphne duMaurier novel I told Steve about while we were driving back and forth, three times I think, from his lake house to Portland, in search of some electrical connection we probably never found, during the time we were first thinking hard about what to do in The Talisman. The journey was about thirty miles each way, so we had plenty of time to talk.
