  • I went to Blockbuster right after they opened this morning and got my Mist globe. I had to go to two stores--each store only got three globes, and all three at the first store had arrived broken. It's kind of neat, although they could have put a few more spiders in there!

    John
  • Yeah, they sorta scrimped on the spiders, and they don't float quite as well as fake snowflakes, but it's a cute gizmo. I picked one up for a friend overseas but if he already got one through other means I'll keep it.
  • Weinstein to Release First Theatrical Blu-ray with 'The Mist'

Becoming the last major studio to embrace Blu-ray, the Weinstein Co. has announced its first theatrical release on the format with the August bow of 'The Mist.'

Though the studio issued a retailer alert last month for the TV-on-high-def release of 'Lonesome Dove,' 'The Mist' will mark the Weinstein's first theatrical title on Blu-ray when it hits stores August 5. (The studio had previously supported HD DVD before pulling the plug following the format's demise earlier this year.)

Directed by Frank Darabont and based on a classic short story by Stephen King, 'The Mist' will come to Blu-ray in a two-disc set with a host of bonus features that replicate the acclaimed DVD edition (which the Weinstein Co. first issued last March). Among the extensive extras are audio commentary with Darabont, multiple making-of featurettes, deleted scenes, a series of behind-the-scenes Web-i-sodes, and theatrical trailers.

Tech specs include both the original theatrical feature and a unique "black and white" version, each getting their own disc, presented in 1080 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Suggested retail price for 'The Mist' has been set at $34.98.
  • The Mist has just been released in the UK and, based on some of the reviews I've scanne, it seems to be getting better critical response over there than it did here.
  • I wonder if that is in Knowing Darkness? I'll check when I get home tonight.
  • I can't recall right off hand. Rich Chizmar and I got to see the original on the set of The Mist.
  • Thought it was - and its a full page too , beautiful color print with no lettering on it.

    Magnificent.
  • Bob Weinstein said he was developing original projects that would be in tune with his horror- and action-oriented Dimension brand, along with several shows based on movies he has overseen for the company. He is preparing a pilot based on the “Scream” films for MTV, for instance, and developing a proposed 10-part series with Frank Darabont, based on Dimension’s film version of Stephen King’s “The Mist.”

  • Interesting! Remake? Sequel? Side-quel?
  • Indeed. Book ending? Movie ending?
  • The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Television is developing a TV series based on The Mist, first a Stephen King novella and then a 2007 MGM film directed by Frank Darabont. The project, which Dimension says is moving forward with King’s blessing, is from writer Christian Torpe, who created the Danish series Rita which is now finishing its fourth season.

The series will tell an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town but contains limitless havoc. From psychological terrors to otherworldly creatures, the mist causes the town residents’ darkest demons to appear forcing them to battle the supernatural event and, more importantly, each other.

“The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. “With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.”

Dimension TV’s Megan Spanjian, Matthew Signer and Keith Levine will oversee the project.

  • Excellent!  Use the novella's ending and it's a helluva of a springboard for a series that could make The Walking Dead look like a walk in the park.

Dimension Television will produce the project, based on the famed author's novella.

Spike is getting into the Stephen King business.

The Viacom-owned cable network has ordered a pilot based on the famed author's novella, The Mist, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Originally published in 1980, The Mist centers on a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and subsequently creates immense havoc.

Dimension Television is set to produce the project, with Christian Torpe (Denmark's Rita) on board as an executive producer.

“We are thrilled to join forces with the incredibly creative Christian Torpe and Dimension Films to develop Stephen King’s enthralling novella to a compelling series unlike anything else on television,” Sharon Levy, Spike's evp of original series, said.

Added Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of Dimension TV's parent company, The Weinstein Company: “We are excited to be in business with Spike on their first scripted production pilot and working with the very talented Christian Torpe to further explore Stephen King’s classic novella and bring this riveting series to television audiences."

This is the latest push into scripted for Spike. The channel debuted it's first scripted project in eight years, the mini Tut, in 2015 and recently ordered Red Mars, an adaptation of Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy books, straight to series last month.

If The Mist goes to series, it would join Dimension TV's Scream, which is going into its second season on MTV.

King's other TV projects include Under the Dome, which recently ended after three seasons on CBS, and the Hulu event series 11.22.63 based on his novel of the same name. A film version of The Mist grossed $57 million at the box office in 2007.

The 10-episode series tells a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc. It is written and executive produced by Christian Torpe, creator of the hit Danish drama Rita, now finishing its fourth season.

Bernstein directed the pilots for Fargo, 30 Rock, and Scrubs. Other credits include Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Californication, Shameless, Bored to Death, Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street, and Entourage. In 2006, he shared a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series for 30 Rock.

  • The Mist TV adaptation headed for Bedford, NS

The old Target store in Bedford will be the summer shooting location for a multi-million-dollar television series inspired by Stephen King’s book The Mist.

Last April, Spike TV announced that production for the original scripted series was beginning this summer and slated to air in 2017.

Two sources close to the production said Wednesday that filming is expected to begin next week in the empty Target store in Bedford.

The Bedford Place Mall building will reportedly be used as studio space for the harrowing series.

The Target store has been shuttered since April 2015, when the American retailer closed down all of their 133 Canadian locations after failing to crack the Canadian market.

On Wednesday, there were no obvious signs of TV production but a RONA employee said their store and other surrounding businesses received a notice last week about the filming of a television series.

The employee said the notice indicated production will begin in July and be filmed over a six-month period. A portion of the back parking lot of the mall will be used to park production trailers.

The notice did not disclose the name of the series or the production company. David Schwarz, senior vice-president of communications for Spike TV, said in an emailed statement on Wednesday that production details cannot be confirmed at this time.

The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Television will produce 10 one-hour episodes for the series. Based on Stephen King’s 1984 novella, the plot centres on a mysterious mist that seeps into a small town and wreaks havoc with all those it touches.

Weinstein Company and executive producer Christian Torpe are both familiar with Stephen King, having produced his films in the past, including the 2007 film adaptation of “The Mist.”
  • Emmy nominee Frances Conroy has been tapped to star in the scripted drama based on Stephen King's 1980 book and subsequent feature film, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Spike's The Mist — picked up straight-to-series with a 10-episode order — tells the harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc. Six Feet Under and American Horror Story alum Conroy will portray Nathalie, a modern-day ecological martyr. While she is seemingly more connected to nature than most people, her instincts about her fellow humans are dead on. The actress, currently appearing on Hulu's Casual, is repped by Paradigm and Echo Lake Entertainment.
