Roland illustration in Grant DTII 1st ed.

I recently noticed something unusual about one of the illustrations in the Grant 1st ed. of DTII. It's the last one (extreme close up of Roland's face, grinning maniacally). The illustration has all these white splotches on it, in a negative blood spatter pattern.



Does anyone else have a Grant DTII first that they can check to see whether their's is the same? I have a Sphere DTII trade PB with the illustrations, but in that, the Roland one doesn't have the white splotches.

All the Grant Firsts of DTII are the same. When I first got my copy (when it was first published) I thought also that it was a printing error, but they are all like that.
