Dollar Baby Festival

edited September 2004 in General news
I just got home from the dollar baby festival. I got a signed post card for the Road to the Dark Tower signed by Bev :) thanks! It didn't fill up like I had hoped but there was a good number (50sih? or more like 100??)

Anyway they were all great films. Very creative. All very unique!

One thing that might be good next year is to advertise to the University of Maine community. There was nothing on their website about it. They have a media contact, his name is Joe Carr. I know its not officially a University of Maine event, but maybe it could be incorperated into being one next year? It might attract more viewers.

It was nice to see the directors go up and answer questions.

  • So how is Mick Garris involved with the Gotham Cafe? I saw him in that preview clip but missed how he was involved?
  • the next time I will be there :)

iluvthestand... why are you not on the after party?
  • My hubby had to work on the morning so i didn't go. I was just happy to see the films. they were all pretty amazing.

They did talk about holding one next year with more movies too.

All that you love will be carried away had some neat Dark Tower references and references to other books as well which I enjoyed.
  • They mentioned http://stephenkingshortmovies.com and http://www.liljas-library.com/

as websites that helped bring the event together.

We talked him into doing a cameo for us--he's playing a priest named Father Callahan. ;D

Thanks for your report! Sounds like a fun event.
  • are there maybe pictures availible from the festival?

  • Maybe the organizers of this event would be interested in holding it next year during the SKEMERs conference (usually held mid-July) which would of course draw 30-40 more people in the audience. Just a thought...

I think that the most people and directors are then on vacation.. don't you think?
  • Official audience count for first Dollar Baby Fest: 101.

Now that we've blazed the trail, I'm sure next year will be bigger and better. I'd like to add some forums and make a whole day (or two) out of it. There are so many new dollar babies being made, it could make for a very big event.

Thanks for everyone who came out and supported the filmmakers...and drank beer with us afterwards.

Thanks to Bev and Lilja and Bernd and Kathy and Marsha and Julie and Mick and all the directors for all their help.

I'll have pics and a website up soon.

  • Here's a post-festival report in the Bangor Daily News.
  • thanks for posting that! I'm going to be sending Bernd some hard copies of the articles.

If anyone wants some help regarding the festival next year let me know, i live in Bangor so I could always give some ideas regarding advertising, etc.
