SKs Retirement

edited August 2004 in General news
An interesting comment from the message board moderator at stephenking.com! A hint or some teasing mayhap! ;D

I have finished bag of bones about a week ago, and thought it was great. In Wolves of the Calla, it is marked as DT related, but I guess the Outsiders are the only real relation. Am I wrong? What are the Outsiders? Also, I have read that Stephen King has retired, and wish him the best of luck. Has he written more books like Mike in Bag of Bones to be published to keep his publishers and fans happy? I don’t know what I’ll do without more King novels!! I figured from the way he wrote bag of bones that he might get writter’s block as well, so maybe he has written back up books just in case. Either way, I’m looking forward to DT7, and any other future King works and movies.

Response from Moderator: He’s writing a novel right now and whether it will be a "Mike Noonan" novel remains to be seen as it is not currently scheduled for publication.

  • In Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, he said he didn't know whether the book was going well or not, but since he'd announced his retirement he felt like the pressure was off.
  • I think that was the key. Without the pressure from his publisher and the public in general - he's free to write whatever and whenever he wants. But we all have read about him and know that he doesn't just stop writing.. it's in his blood.

I think we can all just sit back and relax - and be pleasantly surprised each time something new comes along. Because personally, I think there's many more stories for him to tell. :)
  • Hi Rache,

I agree, writing is in his blood, his system. Writing isn't something you do, it's something you are.

Hey... I saw an 8th pair of putty tat paws on your message. Congrats. Happy, happy, joy, joy.

You should know that dogs have no work ethic. It's play time all the time. I'd like to write more, but they drape themselves right over my laptop and insist on being scratched or chased. They're great fun, tho.

Same with cats... and they don't like to read either. Every time I pick up a book or magazine, Jasmine decides it's time for some one-on-one mommy/kitty bonding time. :) So precious, yet such a pain in the ass. LOL

I love dogs too and cannot wait until we have one of our very own. In the meantime, I walk my friends' dog when we're at their house. Gives me my temporary puppy fix. :D
  • Agrees with my matey's entirely :)

Writing isn't a profession, some are born to it.

I think we might see a whole new King if he chooses to publish anything in the future, without schedules and timetables and deadlines...something that grow's and mature's at his own pace.

That's why I like his early novels so much before he became famous, because they were written whilst he was just learning his art and there were no serious deadlines. I think you can see this clearly in Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and The Shining.

If he chooses to tell them, I believe he has alot more stories to tell also.
  • King gunning for the Pulitzer next ;D

Not that he didn't earn it already :)
  • mme, fav old one? Dead Zone. fav middle one? Insomnia Fav new one.......black house

I do agree, that his older ones are better in general becuase of the absence of a deadline. Geralds game was horrible!! Worst book ever
