Too many unanswered questions

edited July 2004 in General news
I saw the Finale yesterday, and enjoyed it. Enjoyed the whole series, actually, but it's at the same time not that good, either.

I know King was hoping for a second season, but he should have tied more things together anyway. There's too many unanswered questions, and some of them seems to be just fillers, by both King and Dooling, to just make the show last these 15 hours.

King said once that it was a novelization for TV and that it will have a beginning, a middle, and an end. It got an end, all right, but if a novel ever ended like this, I would burn the book. King said that it would pay back dividends. Not so. I'll always be a big fan of King, but as far as TV and miniseries are concerned, it's begun to falter. Storm of the Century was awesome - very great!

Then, with Rose Red it began to falter, and now with Kingdom Hospital, I must admit that even though I loathe ABC for the way they treated it, I sort of understand their viewpoint. But only after the Finale.

1. What about the phantom ambulance?

2. What was it with Egas Gottreich, the ghostly doc, being the grandson of Klaus Gottreich, the doc who actually killed Mary? And how come a man and his grandson are identical twins? Sally Druse mentions this in the Finale, and only briefly. We should have heard of this before in earlier episodes.

3. Who the heck was Paul anyway? We saw nothing of him in the Gates Falls Mills flashbacks, but we did see Anubis/Antubis in Kett Turton's performance. If Paul was someone who was killed by the mad doc, either before or after Mary, how come Antubis took his form?

If Paul was ever real, Mary has never seen him (as far as we know), so why did Antubis appear as him?

Very confusing...

4. What was the deal with Project Sandman, and Elmer, Abel and Christa being the superdreamers, or whatever. Never explained. Yep, Elmer and Christa is some supernatural goodies, but hooking Elmer to that machine in the Finale. Why? And what was it with that old morgue he "dreamed" about, while courtshipping Dr. Massingale?

5. Why did Paul and mad doc hook the headless ghost to that computer? Never explained.

6. What happened to Fleischer, the bad lawyer. Antubis rips his heart out, and we never hear anything else. Yet, there is a short flashback of it in the Finale. No staff at the hospital mentions it. Finding a patient with his heart ripped out, would cause quite a stir, right?

7. Same goes for Benjamin Bates, the librarian. He's killed by mad doc, and is found by Bobby Druse. Never mentioned, except that Sally Druse mentions him briefly in the Finale, as if he was still alive.

8. Was Antubis really Blondi the German Sheppard?

In the Finale Blondi is just Blondi.

9. Who the heck killed Reverend Jimmy to make him look like Jesus? Some evil bastards, for sure, but who? Paul or mad doc? Don't think so. Although I liked that particular episode, it seems like it just wanted to express King and his wife's religious beliefs.

10. The stuff about Mona Klingerman, as well. When she had her seizures and you heard some sinister voices close by, murmuring satanic stuff. Never explained.

11. The Keepers of the Kingdom. Some of the good docs were part of this, so they probably wasn't satanic, right? Maybe some were. But the ghosts of Paul and mad doc seems either to be members too (which is a silly concept) or they know about it.

And so many other unanswered questions.

Aside from all this, I did like the show, but it seemed to pay too much attention to weirdness and sillyness, and then, a second season or not, getting to the point in the Finale: the stuff about Mary. And very rushed.

And then showing all these flashbacks, distracting the real attention to the Finale's real story.

Anyone else bothered with this?

  • Although I haven't seen the show, I think it is scripted as most TV series are scripted nowadays with a second season in mind and the script was mostly completed before the shooting of the entire first season with no precedent whatsoever as to how the ratings will turn out and whether it will be picked up for a second season which explains the many loose ends.

Correct me someone if I am wrong ;)
