How was everyone's Christmas Day? ๐ŸŽ„

Please feel free to describe your food (in detail... yes, even when I've over-eaten, I still want to hear about the foods you've all made/had ๐Ÿ˜)
Were you able to see family? What gifts did you give? Did you also receive something?

Please share your Christmas/or holiday experiences with us if you choose, that would be lovely.๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ…โ›„

  • Oh, wow! Where do i start? Sausages, Meatballs, Christmas Ham (its made in special way that i never got the hang of), Beetroot salad, Ribs, a potato and herring dish thats very traditional, Cheese, Bread dipped in a tasty special made broth and greenpepper pate. Some desserts including chocolate and a special iranian dish i dont know the name of but thats my hostess speciality. I do know there is saffron in it but not much more. Very good. Also some salmon.

  • That sounds wonderful Kurben! Lots of different things, something to suit everybody's tastes.
Did you have a great day?

  • Yes it was great. We ate, laughed a lot, exchanged gifts (i got books, no surprise there) and watched Donald Duck. In Sweden it somehow does not become Christmas until you watch the Donald Duck thing. It has aired at the same time with the some old movies for more than 60 years now. One hour of pure nostalghia that everyone knows every line in but has to see anyway. Christmas is such a family day that its really nice to have somewhere to be.

  • It sounds like the perfect day! I'm so glad you have somewhere special to be during the holidays too.

  • I hope your Christmas was as good even if you cant have a white christmas......

  • Christmas day went well here. To start we had a selection of cheeses and crackers, sausage rolls, smoked salmon on stoneground wholemeal bread. Then we had turkey, smoked ham, sausage meat stuffing, sprouts, croquette potatoes, roast carrot and parsnips and mash potatoes and gravy. For dessert we had cheesecake, brownies and lemon drizzle cake, and whipped cream. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and went home that night with doggy bags of leftovers. My niece who was over from England sat down at the table and said "I've been waiting two years for this meal"..... that pretty much summed up the day.

  • That sounds so delicious Irish, and I'm very glad you could have family over.
The lemon drizzle cake reminds me of my little nana. She and poppa would make that for my birthday.

  • ....WOW!....I think I need a swig of Gaviscon after supping on those word feasts!....absolutely tremendous guys!....I think it's wonderful Kurb that the world stops for Donald Duck....here at the GNT household, we watch The Grinch animated classic every year....our repast was different this yuletide....we journeyed cross town to GNTSON's and had our gathering.....Tracy and I both found it bittersweet....first time in forever, out house hadn't been full of laughter, squabbling and and food....she was a bit adrift without being the Hostess.....but Seth and Ciera wanted to tackle it, and they did great!....just missed having my youngest home....he came from Florida for a surprise visit a couple of weeks ago though....our feast was ham with a maple syrup/brown sugar glaze, candied yams, mashed potatoes, Tracy's homemade noodles, pasta salad, baked beans, Man N Cheese, stuffing, greenbean casserole, gravy, rolls etc....pumpkin pie. cookies, pudding, cupcakes and the like for desert....plus an interesting grape salad....large seedless grapes of varied colors mixed in a Butterfinger/Caramel glaze...one other note, as a kid-I always yearned for a denim jacket....my parents, for whatever reason, would never get me one......this year, my beloved got me a perfectly fitting jean jacket....and I'm not gonna lie, the old GNT's eyes welled up and spilled over... <3

  • Awww, Scott that would have been so hard for you guys, traditions are everything at holiday time.
It sounds perfect though, and it might have been nice doing less for a change?
I'm glad you finally got your denim jacket, how lovely! โค

  • My Scott had to work all weekend. We did our gifts to and from each other and the 2 kids still at home on Thursday night. My big gift was a certificate for a tattoo. I'm finally going to get the Dark Tower themed one I've been wanting for 15 years!

Friday night (Scott was at least on day shifts so we still had our evenings together) we had all the kids and littles here. We did a snack type supper, crackers, cheese, summer sausage, chips and dip, veggies and dip, cookies and a sweet dip, Lil smokies and beans, and pies. Then had our gift exchange with them all.

Saturday I cooked our Christmas dinner, cooked later in the day and had it ready when Scott hot home.  It was just Scott and I, Ali and Ty.  Had turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy. Cheesy green beans and corn, rolls and pie again. (I tried something different with the turkey this year. Some coworkers told Scott to slather it in mayo and spices instead of butter. I was skeptical but we tried it...it was delicious! I thought it would taste like turkey sandwiches but it didn't. It browned very nice with a bubbly crust and it was extremely juicy. So good I probably never will use just butter again!)

Festivities are still not over...yesterday was Ty's birthday. 15! We gave him his gift but are doing his dinner and cake tonight. And Wednesday is Alison's bday. Marti has done a lot of planning, we are throwing Ali a surprise party for her Sweet 16 that night. Scott is supposed to be on night shifts, he took his last vacation day for that night but she doesn't know it. He will leave at the regular time as if he is going to work and go help set up. I am going to suggest we go out for a cup of coffee to get her to the place. She loves going for coffee and I always say no we can make coffee at home. ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‰ So I'm going to frame it as a special treat for her bday. Hoping we get it pulled off! I don't think she has any idea.

Sounds like everyone had a nice holiday! โค
