IT 2 hour movie

edited July 2004 in General news
STEPHEN KING'S IT (WB, New!) - Mark Wolper and Warner Bros. Television are developing a new small-screen adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel. The pair recently teamed for TNT's presentation of King's "Salem's Lot," which also was its second small-screen incarnation. Not surprisingly then, Peter Filardi, who scripted the TNT version of "Lot," is also on board to adapt the WB's take on "It." The original "It" aired on ABC in November 1990.

  • They are going to have to cut out a lot of the book for this one.
  • That's an awful lotta book to cram in 2 hours dont'cha think! ???
  • I don't know if I'd want to see it. I'm such a fan of the original. And Tim Curry was the ultimate Pennywise. hmmm... wonder if they'll get him to reprise his role? ;) Something tells me no.
  • I only saw the original once - need to track it down again.

Two hours - the only way I can see to do this is to cut out either the kids' part of the story, or the adults. Personally, I'd be okay with seeing the kids original battle with It take the forefront, as that was my favorite part of the book.

I don't know. Based on the success of 'Salem's Lot, you'd think they'd at least get four hours to work with. We'll see.

    Blu
  • A 2 hour version of this would be a waste of time. The movie would be King's IT in name only.
  • I have to agree, I think only 2 hours is a waste of time. But, it might be interesting to see what they'd do with those 2 hours.

I haven't seen the new 'Salem's Lot, but I thought people didn't like it. Was I wrong? Don't even know if it aired here or not.
  • 'Salem's Lot has yet to air in the UK on any format yet, Kay, and I agree wholeheartedly you cannot recreate the essence and heart and soul of IT in a 2 hour movie.

Heck, the book takes me about 2 weeks to read it is that long - and I cannot see any movie doing the recreation of IT justice in two hours or under after editing.
  • Yeah, I know what you mean Dukky. IT is one of my favorite books (could anyone guess that? ;)). There is just so much in that book which is important and most of it can't make it to the screen in only 2 hours, so it loses the flavor of the book. The mini series or whatever it was called is FAR from my favorite movie, but I think they did jutice to the book in that one at least. My biggest complaint with that one, were the adults performances. I think the children far surpassed the adult actors, which surprised me,(as ya'll have heard from me before, I know, I know), because all the adults were accomplished actors, and I thought they were...wodden...forced, if you will. I'll hate it if they make a farce of the book, but then maybe a miracle will happen and they'll do a wondeful job with it!
