New essay Guns available as Kindle Single
King has written an essay discussing his thoughts on the gun control/gun rights issue facing the U.S., available now as a Kindle Single through Amazon.com.
“I think the issue of an America awash in guns is one every citizen has to think about,” said King. “If this helps provoke constructive debate, I’ve done my job. Once I finished writing ‘Guns’ I wanted it published quickly, and Kindle Singles provided an excellent fit.”
From Amazon: In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King’s keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.
Any profits from the essay will go to one of the charities to benefit victims of gun violence.

Very interested to hear reactions to the article from his fellow countrymen.
As a Canadian even though we are much aligned on many things with Americans, this is a perplexing, head scratching one.
The passion this issue invokes from both sides makes it extremely difficult to chart a solution that satisfies all parties. If not impossible.

We had a "school shooting" here a few days ago. Turns out it was just a shooting that happened to take place on a college campus, not one of these berserk "I'm going to shoot everyone" rampages. If it had occurred three blocks away, it wouldn't have been national (or, perhaps, international?) news -- just one of those stupid things that happens around here on a regular basis that might not even have made local news since no one died. I think that's even worse, though -- that we've grown to accept these things (in the US) as "normal."
Concur. Sad indeed.
Saw this similar keynote speech by Stephen King pointed out by Mike Arnzen on twitter - http://www.horrorking.com/interview7.html
This ran in our Cleveland Plain Dealer also!
