One for the Road -- short film adaptation
Known for the outrageous horror-comedy films 2001 Maniacs and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (as well as his hosting duties on the VH1 "Scream Queens 2" reality series), filmmaker Tim Sullivan tipped us off today regarding his latest genre effort, an upcoming short film adaptation of Stephen King’s One for the Road.
The literary sequel to the King novel Salem’s Lot and originally published in the author’s iconic Night Shift horror anthology, Sullivan’s cinematic incarnation is to be written and directed by award-winning Irish filmmaker Paul Ward (Fur Coat and No Knickers, pictured below with Sullivan), and will star horror icon Reggie Bannister of Phantasm fame alongside Fur Coat’s Danny O’Connor and newcomers Audrey Walters, Drew Walters and Karen Andrews. Tom Devlin (who currently can be seen as a contestant on the Syfy reality series "Face Off") will provide One for the Road’s make-up and special effects, and Sullivan promises a “refreshing take on the traditional vampire design.”
Produced under his New Rebellion Entertainment banner as the second in his series of ‘Tim Sullivan Presents’ projects (initiated with the upcoming psychothriller Cut/Print), One for the Road reunites Sullivan with Bloody Bloody Bible Camp producer Gigi Bannister and cinematographer Mike Bates, as well as Chillerama: I Was A Teenage Werebear producers/fellow directors Ward, Gavin Heffernan (Expiration) and Brian McCulley (Text).
“Despite, or maybe because of, the challenges and limited budgets on both Bloody and Werebears,” remarked Sullivan, “those projects epitomized the reason I do what I do in the first place. They were films made by horror fans for horror fans with the emphasis on passion and camaraderie and a true love for the material. While making Werebears, Paul, Gavin, Brian and I constantly felt like kids in a monster fan club doing for a living what we would be doing just for fun. Taking that clubhouse mentality, the four of us have formed an alliance, an ensemble dedicated to nurturing each other’s directorial visions as producers. What better way to carry on that alliance then with Stephen King, an incomparable master who has inspired us all, particularly Paul, whose atmospheric, elegant take on King’s story grabbed me the moment I read it. We aim to make King proud.”
One For The Road is slated to begin filming March 14th in Crestline, California. Stay tuned to Dread Central for our exclusive visit to the set.
