New pool honors Bangor diver

edited June 2004 in General news
BANGOR - Wearing an old-fashioned turquoise polka dot swimming costume and a hat with a dolphin coming out of a tea kettle, Tabitha King emerged dripping from the pool that she and her husband helped fund while onlookers cheered enthusiastically.Tabitha King and her toddler grandson, Ethan King, on Thursday became the first swimmers to enter the pool at the newly dedicated Beth Pancoe Memorial Aquatic Center.

With Ethan on her lap, Tabitha King flew down the winding, three-story water slide that empties into the new, 300,000-gallon pool, creating a wild splash.

Another King, however, didn't want to go in.

Asked if he was taking a dip, internationally known author Stephen King said, "No, it's a little too cold for me."

    :o :o :o 19??!! ::)
  • You beat me to the punch Rache! ;D
  • Not just any 19, either. June 19th. :)
  • Rache, it's quite fitting don't you think? :) I can't believe it has been five years already.

    What a supremely generous thing to do.

  • Is there any wonder we all adore him so much?! What a generous thing for the Kings to do.
  • I can't believe it has been five years already.
    Me neither... five years seems to have flown by... I remember where I was and what I was doing, and how I reacted. Seems like only yesterday.

    But thankfully... time means healing. :)
  • The King's obviously are very generous and supportive of Bangor and I think that's awesome. It seems that a King museum or something honoring him in that park would be appropriate considering he has now donated the money to build a pool, a play ground and a baseball field in the same block and the library not that far away to which the King's raised the funds to renovate it.
