HAVEN, Syfy's original supernatural series from leading independent producer Entertainment One (eOne) is co-commissioned by Shaw Media in Canada and globally via Universal Networks International (UNI).
HAVEN will commence production on 13 episodes for season two in Nova Scotia on April 1, 2011 with an eye towards a Summer 2011 premiere.
Priestley will play "Chris Weekly," a handsome but anti-social marine biologist who must deal with an affliction most would consider a blessing. He joins Emily Rose, who plays "Audrey Parker," a former FBI agent with a knack for investigating the supernatural; Lucas Bryant, who plays "Nathan Wournos," a handsome local cop with his own supernatural affliction; and Eric Balfour, who plays "Duke Crocker," a local smuggler and reluctant aide in solving Haven's troubles. HAVEN is based on "The Colorado Kid" from renowned author Stephen King.
The creative team behind the second season of HAVEN includes Executive Producers John Morayniss (Hung, Hell on Wheels) and Noreen Halpern (Hung, Rookie Blue) from eOne who are joined by Lloyd Segan, Shawn Piller, Scott Shepherd (Stephen King's The Dead Zone) and Matt McGuiness (Journeyman) as well as Sam Ernst & Jim Dunn (Stephen King's The Dead Zone) who also developed the series.
Production on season 2 of TV series begins in April
Cast and crew are starting to assemble on the South Shore as production gears up for the second season of "Haven," the hugely popular television series that filmed here last summer.
Once again the production team is setting up shop in Chester with the first day of filming set for April 1.
Season 2 of the hit Syfy (U.S.) and Showcase (Canada) series will once again star American actress Emily Rose as FBI agent Audrey Parker and Canadian actor Lucas Bryant as her mystery-solving partner Nathan Wuornos.
In this new season, Agent Parker will be getting closer to solving the mystery of her childhood and just plain getting closer to Duke Crocker played by American actor Eric Balfour.
"Haven" is one of Syfy's most successful original series and it's from Canada's leading independent producer, Entertainment One (eOne). Like the first year, season 2 will feature 13 new episodes and most of the production will be undertaken in the Chester, Hubbards and Lunenburg areas with an eye towards a summer premiere.
"Haven" is based on the novella "The Colorado Kid" from renowned horror writer Stephen King.
Essentially, the series follows agent Audrey Parker, who takes up residence in the small town of Haven, Maine, and soon discovers the town's many secrets. A longtime refuge for people with an eclectic range of supernatural abilities, Haven also holds the key to unlocking the mysteries of Audrey's lost past.
Filmed on the South Shore between April and early September of last year, the first season of "Haven" premiered on Syfy in the United States on July 9 and concluded on October 8. It debuted July 12 in Canada on Showcase. It was launched later in the year in several overseas markets and premiered in England with strong numbers.
In Canada, "Haven" ranks as one of the top five series for Showcase for adults between the ages of 25 and 54.
The announcement that season 2 is gearing up for production is good news for the Nova Scotia film industry and doubly good news for the South Shore's economy.
The creative team behind "Haven" includes a list of writers and producers with a variety of credits, including David MacLeod of Chester-based Big Motion Pictures. In a recent interview, he said he was anxious to be welcoming the team back to the area for another exciting season.
He estimated that at any given time there could be upwards of 100 people involved in the production and with an overall budget of $24 million - $14 million of which will be spent in Nova Scotia - this is a significant boost to the local economy. He added that he is excited to be part of a team that can bring such an important project to the South Shore, which will feel the most significant impact.
"We had terrific co-operation on the South Shore in season 1 and we look forward to continuing the relationship with the communities as we gear up for season 2," he said. "We had a fantastic experience last year and we're all excited about coming back."
Mr. MacLeod had praise for the community and said they look forward to getting back to work in the next few weeks. As it sits right now, production is slated to start on April 1 and carry through to August 19.

Antoine’s character is a former con artist and lover of Duke’s (SKYLINE’s Eric Balfour). As previously announced, Jason Priestley will also join HAVEN this season to direct one episode and guest star in a four-episode story arc. Antoine and Priestley will join Emily Rose, who plays Audrey Parker, a former FBI agent with a knack for investigating the supernatural; Lucas Bryant, who plays Nathan Wuornos, a handsome local cop with his own supernatural affliction; and Balfour, who plays Duke Crocker, a local smuggler and reluctant aide in solving Haven’s troubles.
Balfour talked with Collider about HAVEN, whose second season starts airing on Syfy July 15. “One of the most fun things that people are going to get to see in season two with Duke is the emergence of a love interest, in several different amalgamations,” Balfour reveals “I’m excited about that, and getting to see Duke not quite as confident as always. There’s a character who comes in this season that really pushes Duke’s buttons, and that’s not something you got to see a lot of last year.
“Mostly, what we’re excited about is just improving on what we did last year. We learned a lot from season one. It’s always a balance between what the network and the studio requires, and what we want to do creatively, and everyone has very valid points for what they need, but every season that you do something, you learn a little more about it. Although each season is unique and there’s always a different dynamic to the crew, the writing room and the actors, you still learn a lot from what you’ve already done. You learn what works and what doesn’t, and you can carry that into the next season.
“That’s the thing I’m hopeful for, for this season, but you never know. I’m only an actor on this show, so there’s only so much influence I can have. I try to offer my advice or insight, if they’re open to it, but at the end of the day, you can only say so much. I’m just hopeful that the second season improves on what we did in the first season, but you never really know until it’s all said and done, and on the screen. I really do love the character. I love the way that the writers write him, and the freedom that they give me to bring myself to the character. He’s a ton of fun to play.”
