Tonight is Lost night chez moi. All Lost, all the time. Three solid hours. Yes, I know I’m totally up to date, so I could skip the recap show, but maybe there will be one little tidbit of information that I’ve overlooked before, or one three-second scene that I’ve never seen before.
I finished Chapter 3 this morning, although it needs a slightly punchier ending. Since I haven’t written Chapter 4 yet (but I have written Chapter 5), the ending of 3 might need to wait so I can come up with something that carries over to the next chapter. We’ll see. In terms of word count, I’m exactly where I need to be for this stage of the manuscript. I’ll be curious to see what the editor thinks when I send it in on Friday. She loved my outline.
The contract has been finalized and I should be receiving copies for my signature soon, which means I’ll get the first part of my advance shortly thereafter. Woo-hoo. The deal made Publisher’s Lunch this morning but since most people still haven’t picked up on it yet, I’m remaining mum. Still, it’s a kick to see my name in there.
Walter continues to be the saving grace of Fringe. It’s one thing for a character like Patrick Jane to redeem a show–he’s the protagonist, after all. But for a secondary character to keep me coming back is another thing altogether. I almost gave up on last night’s episode partway through, but then Walter won me back. “I agree, that man is insane,” he said. “And I say this from an ‘it takes one to know one’ perspective.” (Not an exact quote–his line was punchier and funnier, and his delivery was, as always, unique.
I finished Joe Hill’s Gunpowder last night. I’m not quite sure what to make of it yet. I’ll have to give it some more thought. To the best of my knowledge, his first foray into what might be called science fiction, though I’m sure there are some who would quibble over that designation.
