It was 68° this morning when I came to work. The whole weekend was mild and tropical. By noon today, the temperature had dropped to 44° and we are at risk of freezing rain tonight. By mid-day Wednesday it will be back on its way toward the 70s.
We watched a British movie called In a Day this weekend. Didn’t feature anyone we recognized, but it was a quirky romantic comedy about this struggling blues musician who works in a sandwich shop to make ends meet. After an unpleasant encounter with a stranger while waiting for the bus, she meets another man who knows her from the shop and who treats her to an amazing day: sumptuous meals, custom fittings, etc. But for what purpose? Why is he so determined that she have a terrific day? The answer is a little surprising, but that’s only part of the fun as the movie drags you along from place to place on this seemingly random journey. It has a Before Sunrise feel to it, and a lot of what happens has no implications for what follows. The conversation about the woman’s brother who lost his tongue french kissing a dog, for example.
Bob pulled off an incredible feat by not only surviving to the final three but winning the big prizes on Survivor. With his faction whittled down to just him, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that he’d get voted off, but he won just enough immunity challenges to get to a point where he was still viable. Sugar’s decision to put it in the hands of the fire gods was a savvy one, I thought. King Solomon would have been proud. I half-expected Sugar to win the people’s choice vote, which would have been a nice touch. Corinne and Randy remained true to their colors, both during the jurors’ inquisition and the reunion show, but Randy somehow pulls it off whereas Corinne just seems mean. I understood where Susie was coming from when she said she felt bad for Randy, that she wished she could have done something to help him not be so miserable.
The journalist’s actions over in Iraq were surprising. Apparently he is in jail now pending charges of assaulting not Bush, but rather the Iraqi Prime Minister, who was standing beside him. I have to admit that Bush looked pretty spry.
