My favorite Thanksgiving television episode (and perhaps the funniest 30 minutes of TV ever) is the classic WKRP in Cincinnati episode where Paulson thinks he’s doing a good deed by tossing turkeys from a helicopter circling a grocery store parking lot. The punch line alone (“I swear, as God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly”) is enough to make me crack up. If you’ve never seen it, here’s a snippet of the climactic scene.
Almost as funny (though it’s a Christmas episode, not Thanksgiving), is the Mr. Bean show where he gets his head stuck inside an enormous turkey.
Last night’s Boston Legal didn’t rival either of those for humor or poignancy, and parts of it were downright cringeworthy, especially when Alan went off on his prejudice tirade and Jerry castigated Katie, but then it settled down and redeemed itself in the final 20 minutes or so. Alan’s crack about PriceLine commercials at the end caught me off guard and made me laugh.
I received an e-mail from an editor who wants to talk to me about getting involved in a potentially interesting project. Such things happen so seldom that I can’t help but feel good about it when it does, even if nothing comes of it. I forwarded it to my agent for his feedback before taking any further action.
I’m working on revisions to the end of the short story I’ve been talking about lately. It’s all coming down to the content of the last sentence, and I’m not yet decided what it’s going to say yet. I’m not sure I’ve dithered this much over one sentence before.
Did anyone watch the 24 movie on Sunday night? I have it on tape, but probably won’t get around to watching it until the long weekend.
