The creatures of the forest and the forests themselves rejoice

It’s raining. Yay!

It has been really dry here lately. The driveway is littered with brown pine needles and the lawn has brownish patches. I’m not a diligent waterer of lawns. I figure they should be able to look after themselves most of the time. Oh, every now and then, when I’m feeling guilty about how it looks, or how long it’s been since the last rain, I may drag out the hose and let the sprinkler run for a while. Mostly I’m concerned about keeping the shrubberies alive, and when they start to look peaked, I’ll give them a good soaking.

Today’s rain is a remnant of Hurricane Dolly. We got nothing from it yesterday. At one point in the afternoon, the sky turned purple and I thought we were in for a storm, but the purple clouds evaporated. I was disappointed. Today, it’s generally dark and gloomy and wet, which is a good thing. Too bad I can’t stay at home and curl up with a book, which is what days like today were created for.

I received an ARC of Graham Joyce’s next novel, How to Make Friends With Demons last night, so I’m a happy camper. Graham is one of my favorite authors, so the book goes to the head of the list. While he’s still being published by the mainstream press in the UK, this book is coming out from Night Shade in the US.

One of three area contestants on Big Brother 10 got the heave-ho last night, Steven, the gay rodeo champ. Bucked from the bronco by a 9-0 vote. I would love to see footage of what transpired in the house to change things, because the manipulative scenes we saw indicated one faction that seemed determined to keep him there. Even Keesha turned on him. I wonder if his “Bite this, Bitch” exclamation just before the vote changed some minds. It seemed unmotivated and out of character. Classy.

Now that there’s a female HoH, I expect there’ll be some real fireworks. The female contestants have decided en masse to dislike each other. Look for Angie to go on the block. Though there would be a good strategic reason to get her nominated—I think she’s one of the savviest players among the lot—Keesha will nominate her just because she doesn’t like her.
