The Dawn Patrol

I finished The Dawn Patrol by Don Winslow last night. Decent book—I would try others by him in the future, especially if they feature the same cast of characters as this one. I’m not sure what I’m going to pick up next. So many options.

I found a new comic shop last night. The previous one went out of business between my monthly visits a while back. I’ve been purchasing Locke & Key and The Long Road Home on the internet, but I decided to give this new (to me) place a shot. It seems to be more of a going concern, has a broader inventory, and had a number of people in the store when I went. The owner gave me a few copies of The Stand sketchbook, which was nice. I’d rather give someone local the custom and pay sales tax than have to pay inflated shipping charges for something that really only costs a buck to ship.

Another night of working on genealogy. Every time I think I’m getting close to running out of new leads, I find another batch. Currently up to 550 names, with at least a few more threads to follow. No interesting anecdotes from this latest research, though. At some point I’m going to have to take this huge chart to the print shop and get them to make a poster-sized printout for me so I can wrap my head around it and see if I’ve missed anything.

I’ve got a four-day weekend coming up. The company I work for has a floating holiday that is used to pad out certain long weekends, and this year it is being used for the seventh. Yahoo! I have to work on my Storytellers Unplugged essay, which will be posted on the day I leave for NECON: The 17^th. I have no idea what I’m going to write about yet, though.

Three series I like to watch return with new episodes this month. Burn Notice on July 10^th, The Closer on the 14^th and Eureka on the 29^th. The only thing I’ve been watching lately is reruns of Law & Order. Saw one last night that had Terry O’Quinn from LOST as a gay business mogul.
