I received two rejection letters today. One was a personal note from the editor praising the virtues of my story and explaining why he didn’t think it worked for his market but pointing out favorable elements within it. The other was a form response stuffed into an envelope with no indication that a human being was involved in the process. The personalized rejection was encouraging, but ultimately still a rejection. I still have to find a new market for the story. But I appreciate that the editor took the time to write to me.
I received my contributor copies of a chapbook that you’ll be hearing about soon. It’s a very nice little booklet. I have one copy up on my window of fame in my office at work just to see if anyone’s paying attention and notices the addition.
I think the house guests made the right decision on Big Brother last night. I liked Parker most of the time, but every so often he would just go off on people. And Jen didn’t hesitate to throw her boyfriend under the bus and got caught out in the lie. I don’t think there is anyone among the bunch this year that I’d characterize as “nice.” Chelsia comes the closest, I guess.
I hear that Jesse Martin (Green) is leaving Law & Order. It’ll be interesting to see how they write him out. He’s already been shot at least once. The actor is destined to play Marvin Gaye in a biopic. I really like the way each episode leads the investigators in one or two different directions and ends up being about something else altogether. Look into a guy at a convention who was killed shortly after being setup by a couple of con artists only to discover that his death was a case of mistaken identity.
The weather sucked last night, so we had no view of the lunar eclipse. Oh, well—there’s another one due in 2010.
So, tonight’s dilemma: the presidential debate/LOST. LOST/the presidential debate. Oh, who am I kidding? I can’t even vote.
