I finally finished tinkering with the short story I’ve been revising all week. I read it through last night and made several corrections—mostly deletions—and once again today and made a few more, but the number was getting smaller and smaller and the nature of the changes more esoteric, so I decided it was ready to go. And off it went. The best way to get me to stop revising a story is to submit it somewhere.
Is this the shortest gap ever between seasons of Survivor? Not that I’m complaining or anything. I like the theme for this edition. Better than an All Star show, in my opinion. The “fans” are right in thinking that they might have an edge because they know a lot about the “faves” and the “faves” know absolutely nothing about them. I wasn’t watching the show when Johnny Fairplay was a contestant, but I know all about his infamous grandmother trick. So, was he gamed last night or was he being sincere about wanting out? I didn’t believe him, even when he was talking only for the cameras, but that’s the risk someone who cries wolf takes. Anyhow, I wasn’t sorry to see him go. I have a suspicion that the “faves” are going to get mired in personality conflicts that will do them severe damage until they wise up. They aren’t taking the game all that seriously yet, except for Yao Man, who was clearly there to compete. Nice tackle.
Regarding LOST: I like the new guy, bumbling, diffident, subservient Dan, and wonder why he was affected by the news of 815 the way he was. The addition of these new characters opens up an entirely new batch of questions to be answered (some of them can be done so briefly, as was the case last night when we found out what the newbies were after, though not why, and that’s one heckuva big question). The show is starting to open up, come out of its claustrophobia. The presence of the helicopter alone lends itself to all manner of possibilities. As does the question of why the pilot got bumped from his earlier gig. (I’m being a little circumspect here so I don’t spoil anything for people who aren’t au courant with the show. Suffice to say, Episodes 1 & 2 have been thrilling and invigorating.
I hit page 100 on the manuscript of my new novel. Celebrated by having breakfast.
