A good, solid morning of writing on the new novel I started yesterday. A tad over 1200 words for a grand total of nearly 2000. I revised what I wrote yesterday before I started on the new material. A lot is going on in the first chapter, so the writing is fast and furious.
I watched Cold Case (from Sunday) last night. It was a bit of a change of pace because there wasn’t as much flashing back to younger versions of the characters and more immediacy to the crime. One of the better episodes in recent memory. TV is starting to look like a wasteland of reruns, though, and the TV guides don’t seem to know when there’ll be new material. Our guide, for instance, lists a new episode of Boston Legal tonight, but the Comcast online directory shows a rerun of a totally different program in the same timeslot. At least there’s a new CSI this week.
I’m contemplating taking a creative writing course at the local community college this spring. I’m waiting to hear back from the prof with more details of the course. It’s only one night a week, but I don’t want to do something that will get in the way of the new novel too much so I’m still on the fence about it. Might be an interesting diversion. The prof has his MFA and has published in respected literary journals so it might be a way to enhance the literary-ness of my creativity. He also seems to not be a snob about genre.
My doctoral advisor is visiting with the company I work for during the next few months. He has done a number of sabbaticals with us over the years. It’s always good to see him and his wife. A blast from the past. He’s a terrific teller of stories. Each year I do a dramatic reading for my wife of the Christmas letter he writes.
