I’m glad this week is over. The big data migration took place yesterday and today at work, tens of thousands of records transferred from one database to another, from a flat database to a relational database. Nervous making, especially since the data migration was handled by a third party. As of now, it all looks okay. I’m off to San Diego over the weekend to train the users next week.
Last night’s Survivor was great. For a moment, I thought they were setting it up for Sierra to win the immunity challenge, which would have thrown a monkey wrench into their plans. But then when they all got together to get rid of Tyson when he was vulnerable–that was brilliant play. They were absolutely correct in thinking that it might have been their best only chance to get rid of a very strong competitor. And they will be throwing Coach into a tailspin at the same time. Nicely done.
I also thought that C.S.I. was well done last night, too. For much of the episode, they left open the possibility that the convict who was asking for a new hearing might have been innocent. The discovery of new evidence during the newly re-opened investigation was fun, but the gradual revelation of the truth about the events was terrific.
I’m skimmed through the final few chapters of J.A. Jance’s novel, Cruel Intent. It started off well, had an interesting premise, and then descended rapidly into a bad episode of Murder, She Wrote. The scene where she deliberately lured a serial killer to her mother’s house was just about the stupidist thing I’ve ever read in a crime novel. I received an ARC of Elmore Leonard’s new book this week, so I think that’s what I’ll take with me when I go to San Diego, although I really have to spend my time getting this short story finished for May 1. Time is running out.
