This is what a cold front looks like on the radar! We’re expecting 1-2″ of rain shortly and about a 20° drop in temperature after it passes through. I don’t mind so long as I don’t have to go out in the worst of it. It has been almost unbearably muggy these past few days, and it really doesn’t need to be 90° in October.
Had my first review for The Stephen King Illustrated Companion in The Las Vegas Review Journal today. A very nice review, indeed, calling the book a “gorgeous and extremely informative text.” The reviewer goes on to say: “Needless to say, this is a must-buy book for any King fan. It’s a fabulous adventure that will enthrall all the readers who’ve been influenced by this author’s work. This is a book readers will treasure and want to read again, discovering new bits of information that were missed the first and second time around.”
I received my first copies in the mail from people wanting my signature. I’m expecting more in the coming days. Doing my part to support the Post Office–this heavy book isn’t cheap to ship!
Turns out I scratched both lenses on my glasses yesterday, though I’m still at a loss to know how. The good news is that the lenses are under warranty so it won’t cost anything to get them replaced. Score! I was feeling bad that I’d wasted a few hundred dollars yesterday and was consoling myself by selling a reprint for $100 to offset some of the damage. Ended up $100 to the good! Can’t beat that with a stick. My wife is of the opinion that I lead a charmed life and I can’t argue.
I don’t often discuss political matters on this blog, but Obama’s award today raises some interesting opinions. I tend to agree with the faction that says it’s too soon. He hasn’t really had a chance to prove himself on the world stage. On the other hand, I see the award more as an acknowledgement of a shift in the world’s attitude toward America. For the past eight years, a lot of ill will has been generated, and the country’s decision to elect someone who represented a 180° shift from the previous administration meant that the American people wanted a change. Obama is the visible manifestation of that change, and this is the world saying: good job. That’s what I think, anyway. I could be wrong.
