I made it to page 900 of Under the Dome by the end of this morning’s reading session. I’ve pretty much abandoned everything else to meet this deadline. I received the book on Tuesday evening and I’ll finish it tomorrow, probably by early afternoon. That will give me the rest of the afternoon and all day Sunday to get the 1000-word review in shape. I was intrigued to discover a familiar sigul–not the one you might at first think–in the book. I’m very curious to see how this all plays out in the final 170 pages.
I did turn on the TV long enough to watch Big Brother last night. I am so glad to see that the finally got rid of Ronnie. His parting speech was highly uncalled for, I thought. He lied and manipulated people up one side and down the other, but because one player didn’t do things his way, suddenly she’s the worst human being who ever lived. I have a strong suspicion that Jeff will use his power of coup d’etat next week. That should be interesting.
Well, as suspected, my eyesight isn’t miraculously improving with age. I could have gotten new glasses last year, but it was marginal so I decided to wait. My far vision just needs a little tweaking, but my close-up vision has gotten substantially worse in the past two years. No surprise there. The doctor found some petechial hemorrhages in both eyes. She asked me if I’d been doing any heavy lifting lately. The only heavy object I’ve been lifting is Under the Dome, but that’s not enough she said. Noted in the file for follow-up. The place where you normally hear about petechial hemorrhages is on crime shows. It’s one of the clearest signs that someone has been strangled–as Goran observed last week on Criminal Intent, much to the chagrin of the medical examiner, who seemed exasperated by the fact that he guessed the cause of death right. Again.
It’s hard to believe that school will be starting up again within a few weeks. The summer has just zoomed on by. I think it broke the sound barrier.
