Isn’t that a Paul Williams double-whammy? Rainy days and Mondays. Not in the least: it’s my 13th wedding anniversary. A terrific day, rain or shine!
The most annoying team is gone from The Amazing Race, the divorcees. They were the authors of their own demise, failing to read the instructions correctly as they’ve done several times over the course of the race.
This weekend I read The Tenth Case by Joseph Teller, a courtroom novel by a former lawyer. It has a couple of unnecessary gimmicks (the lawyer’s name, for example: Jaywalker) but it’s a pretty good first novel by someone who knows all the ins and outs of the legal practice. My review is at the hyperlink.
Before that I read Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. Her villainess, Gretchen Lowell, is Hannibal Lecter with boobs—in fact, parts of the setup of Heartsick are very reminiscent of Red Dragon, though other elements of the book go off in a different and unique direction. I very much look forward to reading the follow-up, Sweetheart, which also features Gretchen and her pill-popping nemesis.
I’m also looking forward to this book, Spade & Archer by Joe Gores. It’s an authorized prequel to one of my favorite novels (and movies), The Maltese Falcon. The book is coming out in February from Knopf and is described by the publisher as “a wonderfully fun, gritty, pitch-perfect noir novel.”
Have I mentioned that I’m elated about the US election outcome? If not, then I am!
