Reports of snow as close as College Station and Galveston Island, though the latter was a mere sighting of “flurries” that could just as easily have been dandelion fluff. I bought some new azalea plants for the yard yesterday—I’m glad I didn’t leave them outside. It didn’t freeze, but I’m sure they wouldn’t have been happy in their new digs. They got the benefit of yesterday’s rain before I moved ’em into the garage, though.
I didn’t do any writing this morning. Sleep seemed more important. Fridays can be like that.
Survivor was interesting last night. Pavarti with her fat lip—I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lip that fat before. When did “Jonathan” become “Penner”? I missed that transition. Anyway, the puncture in his leg looks like it might cause him some trouble in the future. I think they made a decent decision in terms of the eviction last night. Though Chet is clearly a weak link in terms of competitions, I bought the argument that Joel wasn’t actually doing them a lot of good, either. He was very bad at the tile-breaking contest and I can’t recall him excelling at any other competition, either. And when will they learn that blabbing about having the idol is a bad idea. Bad, bad, bad. Immediately after Ozzy told three people, two of them were swapped to the opposing team. Bad idea.
I would nominate last night’s episode of LOST as the weakest of Season 4 to date. Juliette’s backstory simply wasn’t all that compelling or necessary to understanding her or her relationship with Ben. We knew they had a history. Adding another manipulation to Ben’s portfolio didn’t do much for me, and injecting a new character into previous scenes just felt a little off. However, I liked the Locke/Ben exchanges, and the score is now something like Hurley 10 : Sawyer 0 in terms of competitions and games. I also like that they are toying with us in terms of whether the freighter folk are good guys or bad. The episode was okay, but not mindblowing like most of S4 has been so far. One of the funniest moments was when Locke brought Ben his dinner and Ben deadpanned, “This rabbit didn’t happen to have a number on it, did it?”
