  • Jackie is brooding the chicks when Shadow arrives with a stick. He places it and Jackie gets up and either chick 1 or 2 was stuck to her plumage and was carried out of the nest bowl unto the snow with her. Jackie steps on the chick & drags it with her as she goes to the pantry to eat some fish. Shadow broods the other two chicks as Jackie is eating. We can see the chick next to Jackie while she eats. Then Shadow gets up and eats some fish - Jackie is behind him and she will move & carry the chick with her. Then we see the chick on the right side of the nest in the snow. Thankfully it rolls back into the nest and is okay! It's head pops up like what in the world just happened to me? But for all of us watching this live it was a very scary moment! Timestamps are provided below. Thank you for watching!

  • A baby is missing. I read above but did something else happen?
    GNTLGNTFlakeNoir
  • No baby missing.  It rolled back in bole. All good as of this morning.

  • Sooo much scarier with an extra baby in the nest, less room as they grow too. 🤞🙏❤️

  • Hello everyone,
During the first feeding session today only two chicks were visible. We cannot see the entire nest bowl because the view remains partially obstructed by snow.
We are observers of nature and do not know the entirety of the current situation.
In nature, things happen that we can’t control. While as emotional beings, we must feel all of our emotions, we are asking that you please have as much understanding for each other as you do for our eagles. Negativity and assumptions do not help the situation. Please be kind with yourself and to each other even when it might seem hard to do.

We will keep you updated as we observe more.

Bookmark our LIVE Recap for all information about nest events. The recap is maintained up-to-date by our dedicated team of volunteers, who monitor the nest around the clock.

    Dear Eagle Family…
The current situation regarding Jackie, Shadow and their three chicks, as of 17:30 PST:
At this time, we cannot see the entire nest bowl because the camera’s view remains partially obstructed by a snow berm around the bowl, so we do not know the situation in that area of the nest.
During the first feeding session today, only two chicks were visible in the portion of the nest that can be seen.
The two chicks appeared awake and aware and both were fed.
All chicks are likely still in the clear space in the nest bowl, which is quite wide.
All three were seen yesterday evening during the last feeding; and Jackie and Shadow did not remove anything
from the bowl large enough to be a chick.
Some inaccurate information being spread needs correction to avoid confusion. One false report says Shadow stepped on a chick yesterday afternoon. The truth: as Shadow was exiting the bowl, one chick was resting atop his foot, which they often do. It was briefly pulled away from the other chicks, but rolled back to them quickly. All 3 chicks were visible in the bowl at that time and were all also viewed feeding later.
A second false report involves Jackie’s wingslap of a flying squirrel visit to the nest very early today. Truth: Jackie threw bits of snow from the nest during that episode, but nothing large enough to be a chick. Jackie’s wingslaps are on the surface. The bowl is deep and the chicks are large and heavy.
Jackie and Shadow have made five food deliveries today. Jackie’s last feeding of the two chicks was at 17:24 PST. We are expecting clear skies tomorrow.
We are observers of nature. Things happen that we cannot control. We do not know the entirety of the current situation at this time. Even when our emotions are running over, drama, worry and assumptions do not change any situation or help anyone. We have the opportunity to observe the miracles of nature in all of its aspects. Please approach it with patience, understanding and heartfelt kindness to those around you.
As soon as we can observe a clear view, we will provide more updated information. Our dedicated team of volunteers, monitor the nest around the clock.

Shadow removed the deceased eaglet from the next at 6:58 today. Placed it gently to the side of the nest.  The 2 remaining eaglets are being fed.  Appears to be sun today, but rain and possible more snow due this week.

  • Yesterday afternoon, Jackie took the eaglets off the nest.  Fly free little one.

  • From FOBBV:
One chick passed away during a winter storm sometime after 3/13 6PM.
After careful review of the two chicks still in the nest, it appears they have a large age gap between them, which would mean Chick3 is still in the nest. This is based on:
    1) Foot size--eagle chicks show their first growth spurt in their feet and the bigger chick is already starting to show clown feet, but the smaller one is not, 2) Thermal down--the bigger chick has a more advanced dark gray thermal down, than the smaller one.
But since there is a small size difference and the food aggression is lower, it appears that despite being the most well fed and dominant sibling, Chick1 is the one that did not survive the storm.
Since there is no way to know for sure that it is Chick2 and Chick3 in the nest, we will temporarily call them the Bigger Chick (BC) and the Smaller Chick (SC), until the naming contest (to be announced later).

  • The Fl chat box will have it's final discussion of season 13 on Sunday at 3:30 nest time.  Cams will remain on until first "H" of the season.  Ground crews will continuing monitoring thru the summer months. M and F are being seen less and  less at the nest.  They will take a mini vacation but remain within their territory.  Work on the nest usually resumes late September.
If something important comes up, I will post.

Until then I will continue to watch Big Bear and the awesome growth of the two eaglets.
