Watching Randall do a faceplant on the gameboard on Survivor last night was a bit scary. The fact that most of the other contestants were blindfolded added to the situation. The second time he went out was even worse than the first, with that thousand-mile stare in his eyes. My wife, a nurse, diagnosed him as severely dehydrated (she doesn’t watch the show, just the bit where they reported his drop in heart rate and BP after the first time he collapsed). The conditions this season have been brutal.
This week’s Grey’s Anatomy was one of the best in a long time, except they didn’t exploit one facet of eye witness testimony: unreliability. Everyone, from every perspective, saw and remembered exactly the same things. Same words, same postures, everything. It would have made it a little more interesting if there had been some variations, which one would expect, especially in a high-stress situation like that. I also noticed the doctor’s oversight the minute it happened. The guy with the axe in his chest might have distracted her, but it didn’t fool me.
I received my contributor copy of Tesseracts Thirteen yesterday, along with payment for my story, Overtoun Bridge. I haven’t had much time to look through the book yet, but I look forward to spending some time with it. One of the first anthologies to bear my name on the cover. Of course, everyone got their name on the cover of this one!
The picture today is the one my wife took yesterday with her cell phone at the local B&N. The book is shelved in the bargain section, which makes it look like it’s been remaindered already, but that was the intent from the beginning–this is an out-of-the-box bargain book, intended to be affordable. I think it’s a great deal for less than $25 and I’m not sure that B&N realizes how much really cool stuff King let the designers include in it!
I was contacted by an author working on another project last night, asking if she could quote from some of my material in the companion. One small section. I’ve contacted my editor to make sure there are no issues, but I’m fine with it. It’s one more way to spread word about the book, at least!
